Whoaaaa how did you get such high temps....my freakin load temp is only 54-55C...get some better airflow and d/l rivatuner so you can manually set fan speed.

You'll see a really nice reduction in temps and enjoy the quiet too.....

m :)

I'd rather not change the cooler because it's the Copper heatsink edition and apparently it's supposed to cool well, maybe the factory overclock 470/1100 is the reason why the temps are so high?
edit: using rivatuner I'm about to lower the clocks down to referance speeds and put the fan @ 100% and see if that helps.

Didn't change the temps more than 1 degree celcius. Maybe the heatsink needs to be reseated?

I have a Silencer on my 7800GT (500/1200) and load temps never exceed 55C in 80F ambient air...... what kind of case are you using and what size cooling fans?

I think it only has one case fan and that fan is a 90mm, not 100% sure though. I'm borrowing this computer for another few weeks until I can get a Conroe, not sure if I should bother fixing this problem. Are these high temps bad for a 7800GT?

They are a little high but it shouldn't hurt anything. You may start artifacting, etc.. though. If you are building a new machine, try to get a case with front and rear 120mm fans. Not only will it be good for your video card, but you'll be able to unleash that Conroe to its' full potential.....

I'm looking at a Coolermaster Centerion 5 case with the front and rear 120mm fans.

well, I'm not using a 7800GT next time, probobly a volt modded 7900GT meaning it will probobly generate more heat than a 7800GT.

A Centurion 5 doesn't have a 120mm front intake fan...only room for an 80mm. You would have to mod a 120mm in the front.
