Any suggestions? I was considering these:

Nikon Coolpix 880
Sony Cybershot DSC-P1
Kodak DC-4800
Olympus C3000

All are 3.1 Megapixel.

Thanks!

I just posted this in the other thread....

Digital Photography Review

I'm interested in the Canon G1... that's in your price range too... and its a 3Megpixel camera...

For priceing look at Price Scan.... Its like price watch, but is good for Home theatre, and digital photography....

What are you going to use it for?

You should test out all the cameras to see how they fit your style.

I take a lot of still pictures of my baby with my Canon S100 which is perfect for that but I cannot take any action pictures since the cycle time on my camera is very bad.

You should keep that in mind.

First, Check out this site: DPReview.

None of the cameras you mentioned are in the $600-$700 range. You can get most of them under $500 these days. So if you're willing to spend $600+, you can probably buy something better.

I would recommend getting the Sony DCS-S75 in that price range. It's the new one in Sony's digital camera line. Look at Pricegrabber. The lowest I found it for on pricegrabber is $659. Read the review of DCS-S75 here. Don't forget to look at the sample pictures; the quality is simple AMAZING. I seriously doubt you'll find any camera better than this in the $600-$700 price range.

The Canon G1 is another good camera, and also a little cheaper. The picture quality is same as the Sony. You wouldn't make a bad decision picking either one of these.. although g1 has the price advantage. 🙂

i would HIGHLY recommend the Sony DSC-P1, and even better the s75, I choose the p1 cause i got a GREAT deal on it and i like how small it is. If you wanna check out pictures i've taken check out http://photos.yahoo.com/trilogy98 These are on my P1, and are quite equivilant to the s75. Sony is amazing good with their optics and is highly rated.

I find that even with a high amount of megapixels, the quality of the photos are still dependent on the photographer.

I find a nice, 2.1mp Kodak Dc280 is very nice.

Take a look at the Casio QV8000SX. It is only 1.3 Megapixel, but is camera features make up for it.

specifically 8x optical zoom AND 4X digital zoom.

lots of automatic and manual features too.

I've only had mine 2 days , so no real pictures yet to put on display...

I would go with the Sony or the Kodak. I like Sony more though just for the mpeg picture thing. Quality is great on either camera with I think the edge going to Sony.

If you putz around in the HD forums, you can score a dc4800 for maybe 350 or so. I have one and it's a great camera for that price, but the Sony is better if the prices are the same.

Gezz! thanks for all the help.

I am checking out the dpreview site (really good), and I will be making my decision soon...

go to the forums in dpreview. ask questions.

remember that the sony uses proprietory memory sticks. so you can't get in on those compact flash or smart media deals in "hot deals"

don't forget you need extra $$$ for batteries, more memory, a bag, some cleaning supplies...

you'll definitely want more memory if you take 3 megapixel pictures =P you'll fit in the order of a handful in an 8MB piece.
