Tips on cracking lower back?

I've had the worst pain in my lower back today and have no way of cracking it. Any tips? I've had my friend give me a bear hug but that only cracked my upper back as did trying to turn around while sitting down. Good God does this hurt.

Sit on the bed. Turn to the left and put your left hand directly behind your back, with wrist facing butt. Put your right hand next to your left hip with your wrist facing your hip. (Both hands are perpendicular to each other) With your butt firmly planted, twist your torso to the left. Repeat with hands switched on the right side. Or sit in chair, grab chair and twist torso. Feels gooooooooooood.

Trust me. You don't want to start cracking it. I started and now everyday it hurts and I have to crack it like 3 times a day. It sucks bigtime.

Sit on floor, legs extended in front. Raise left knee (keeping foot on ground). Place right elbow on outside of right knee. Rotate shoulders left.

Repeat, reversing directions.

Do this everyday, before getting out of bed, to prevent it from happening in the future:

Figure-4 stretch
  • Lying on your back, with your head on the floor or mat and right knee bent, pull your right knee towards your chest.
  • Then draw your knee across your body towards your left shoulder. Try to keep both shoulders on the floor or mat.
  • Repeat with your left leg.
Double knee to chest stretch
  • Lying on your back with knees bent, pull both knees off the floor toward your chest, holding legs behind the knees on the bottom part of your hamstrings. This stretch can be done with both legs together or one at a time.
Right now, your muscle is pulled tight. I'm not sure how that should be treated, with hot or cold packs. Try lying on a heat pad, and do the above stretches SLOWLY. If it hurts, don't do them!
