My dad purchased a new Porsche 911 a couple of weeks ago and it's time for its first bath. We want to avoid as many swirls in the paint as possible.

What type of soap should we wash it with? What type of wash cloth should be used?

What should we use to dry it?

Any tips on keeping this awesome paint in pristine condition would be appreciated.

One company: Zaino's

Email them for some advice if you want, Sal Zaino will probably respond to you himself. He loves his product and really stands by it. I do recommend the entire system. Great stuff.

Washing a car will not put swirls in it. Only improper waxing will leave swirls. Any soft, lint-free cloth is fine for washing the car. I would recommend a synthetic chamois to dry the car (synthetic chamois are easier to clean when they get dirty, and they are less expensive while still doing a comparable job to genuine chamois).

As for the detergents to use, I would recommend Meguires (sp?).

Finally, if you're worried about things like stone chips and bug splats on a Porsche, you'll never be drving it fast enough or hard enough to really enjoy the car. :)

If you're drying your car... instead of regular chamois, try the Absorber.
Make sure you use a non-stripping car soap to protect the oils and chemicals in your paint's finish. Most of keeping your paint in pristine condition is waxing and polishing well. Zaino rocks... if not and you can spring for detailer shop $100 bottle Zymol wax...

I recall there's a really awesome detailing forum out there... a car is a car is a car when it comes to detailing.

everyone says zaino's better stick to that.

as far as drying, get 'chamois' from wal mart. it works great.

As far as washing, get sheepwool mitten from wal mart. great.

for products, use zaino i guess.

Go to Autopia.
Buy the E-Book if you'd like... or download the 1st 8 chapters free.
EVERYTHING you could ever want to know about detailing can be found there.
I could answer you myself... but my post would be loooong. So I'll just let you browse around Autopia instead. :)

If you are going to use any dish washing detergent on a car, it better be Dawn. It is good stuff, but I would only use it right before I am going to wax it, not every time:Q

Again, this website is great just like Mutilator and white said. The forums are excellent too for just looking around for answers.
