I recently saw a guy begging while eating a Chipotle burrito and talking on his cell phone. He was definitely a bum though. He looked and smelled the part.

It also bugs me when they pull out a pack of cigarettes or have a big soda. Its hard to feel compelled to give money to somebody with luxuries such as cigarettes and soda.

There is a "homeless" guy that lives in downtown Naperville. He is literally the only homeless guy around and has been camped out near a parking garage for YEARS. He has a laptop + wifi, a cell phone, and a camera. The city doesn't boot him because he used to be some politician. The whole thing is very weird.

There is a homeless man near campus here who can be seen carrying around a violin. The story I've heard is that he used to be music professor. All he wanted to do was play violin, so he became homeless and plays the violin all day long. I'm not sure how true this story is though.

Meh...had a homeless guy come up to me and ask me for food instead of cash. Bought him two $3 subs on sale from Publix.

I never give cash to bums, theres been times where I offered them the food I was taking home and they refused.

Food, no money. If they don't take it.. their loss. I had a guy stand in front of my car yelling at me at a green light.. he started coming at the car so I started to get out. My GF freaked. He ended up taking off. I don't think he would have been any trouble per se, he was just loony.

I've seen them on the side of the street listening to iPods....

It's hard to say. If I was homeless, I'd have a netbook, mp3 player, and cell phone with me. That doesn't mean I have money though. And drinking soda? that's about the cheapest beverage you can buy. Water usually costs more, unless you can find an open tap to steal it from.

I was in savannah with my girlfriend a few months ago, sitting on a bench in one of the squares on the south side of downtown...one of the big ones with a statue in it... and had a homeless guy come up and ask me for money. it went something like this:

-"hey man i'm livin on the street and i wanted to ask you if i could get a couple dollars for some food"
-"i'm sorry, i don't have any cash" (honest to god truth)

Now, someone was shot by a homeless guy in this EXACT situation about a week prior, so i was trying to be "cool." i was sitting with my arm around my girlfriend, kindof leaned back, and i hadn't moved yet, and he replies...

"ooooh i see. so your like, wit your girl, and you're like what the fuck, get the fuck outta my face. ooooookkkkk i see. yeah. get the fuck outta my face. alright man fuck you."

i was so shocked i didn't know what to say. the guy walked away. had i been thinking faster, i would have informed him that harassing people was an excellent way to get handouts.
