Tips for winter storage of bikes. Oil change necessary?

I need to store my bike (R1) for about 3-4 months. The oil has about 5000km and needs to be changed. I've read somewhere that it's advisable to do an oil change and put some cheap mineral stuff and then get rid of before riding again.
If some of you guys can help with personnal opinion or a link to a site maybe?

i'd change the oil.. fill up the gas tank and put in some Stabil. if it's carbed, then run it for a while then shut off the fuel and run it til the carb is empty, so the carb doesn't have gas sitting in it. that's pretty much it. 3-4 months aint that long..

I wouldn't say it's nescesarry. Just fill up the tank and throw some stabil in there, toss a cover over it (with some of those moisture absorbtion packs under the cover) and pull the battery and put it on a trickle charger over the winter.

3-4 months I'd drain the oil (put it on blocks too if it were a car, but some kind of brace for a bike so the weight isn't sitting on one specific part of the tires for months on end.) Take out the fuel too if possible. Some kind of cover to prevent enviornment damage also.

Oh good call, I'd totally forgotten about that. Definitely take the battery off the circuit too.
