Tips for when you get burned with Internet Fraud?

It looks as if I might not get my money back for a purchase I made. I really did not want to spend that much money over a forums but I saw the persons name from previous sales on there. This was on a totally different website to add and different subject matter. The guy had multiple of a item and the price was like 25% off of a item that doesn't go on sale so it was a steal of a price.

Fella has had my money for 17days.

On the 8th day he claimed that ALL orders are cancelled due to flack he was getting from purchasers so he decided it was not worth it since he had to pick the product up. He seems to be the middle man to make a little profit.

So now on the 14th day I finally sent another email asking about the money and he said he would overnight it. So still it has not arrived.

Last night I sent a email more expressing the importance of refund payment asap but was written in a professional manner.

I was responded by a "friend of the family" that the wife asked to have look over this transaction since the seller got in a serious auto accident.

HMMm? Of course this looks like no chance of my money but others that made purchases have gottin there money back so the people say on the forums. A friend of a friend purchased 4 and he also has not recieved payment back.

What do you guys think and what the hell can I do?

I sent funds a certified bank check with his name printed on it from the bank. I know next time I should use a postal money order but didn't know that until now. Besides taken the trip down south to get my money back whatelse can I do?

O yeah the cost was 515$ and I took the risk for the price, I know my mistake, but what can I do?

Thats what I am thinking.

Is that pretty much I post my issue and they don't do much about it??

So is like legal steps the only option? And its pretty much in the bracket of not worth the time and money to go after him but still a good loss. If I knew it wouldn't cost anymore than I lost to get legal sides to get my money back I would so the fella wouldn't get away with this crap.

many still believe the internet shields them from law and you finding them.

They had some idiots in the paper here recently there was a quote that was something moronic like "We had no idea we were committing a real crime"

Yeah because you stole someone's money over the net, it's only a virtual crime

Thank god most criminals are borderline retarded.

Tomarrow(15th) is the new deadline date for payment to be shipped out. I doubt that it will go out tomarrow so I am going to the ICFF to file a complaint. Do you think I should write a "last chance" email to the guy and quote what I will write as my complaint and show all the steps I am bout ready to take on his $%&$# to get my money back. Or just start the long trek to the top of Mount. GetMyMoneyBackSucka?

By the way this is related to firearms and hopefully I can use that to levrage the law to look at this guy. Please no spam regarding your opinion on firearms.

Right now my company is dealing with a 1 year old issue regarding $4,100 in equipment sold to a real company in New York.

Our warranty is 30 days. On the 3rd month, they requested a backcharge and it was based on they chose the wrong equipment...not that the eq was bad, or the wrong part....just basically they changed their mind.

So the company bank account got deducted $4,100 on a payroll Friday. We never got the eq back and they don't answer the phone unless we have a new area code/phone number call. We countered the back charge a month later and got our money back.

Now with a backcharge that's that unless new information comes forward....well 6 months later they submitted the exact same info and the backcharge was done again.

We still don't have our eq and they have $8,200 of our money (actually about $10k since we cut them a break). I work from Florida so I called them yesterday after no-one at home office could get even an operator to pick up. First ring they answered and I got the person on the phone....as soon as I brought up getting an eq pickup she put me to voice mail and would not answer my callbacks.

When we were teenagers (I was 21) we went to a guy's apartment in gainesville (about 3.5 hours away) who bought an Amiga 3000 from my brother COD, but the driver never collected and the frieght company had a policy they were only an agent and not responsible....

We showed up 'dressed', in dark glasses, each with a short bat. We even made him get cash when he tried to pay by check...if it was up to me he'd be in the hospital, but my brother is a kinder soul.

That happened to me a few years ago and I reported it to the Attorney Generals of both my state (MD) and his (KT). A guy from the AG sent a letter to the offending party advising him that I had reported the fraudulent transaction. A few weeks later, I received a check for part of the money and a note telling me that I would be refunded in installments. It took a few months and several phone calls (the guy missed some of his payments), but eventually I got it all back.

Certified Bank Check - I own a small company, and had an email from Nigeria (no, not THAT email) from a guy who wanted to buy a bunch of stuff. Knowing what I know about the Nigeria scams, I told him that I would only deal with him if he did a wire transfer or a certified check. He sent the check, and before I cashed it I took it to someone who works at the bank to check it out. Turns out it was a fake, but she told me that even if it was real a certified check can be cancelled years after it has been cashed. Check with the bank where you got the check, they should be able to tell you if it has been cashed, then ask them about getting your money back.

USBank is my bank and they told me once its cashed i am SOL. They say they have no way of getting back funds.
