Tips for watching the Aurora Borealis..

Ok here's what I have found:

http://www.spaceweather.com/ Where I started my search; apparently a guy in Arizona captures pictures of them all the time.

http://www.gi.alaska.edu/LowLatitudePrediction.php3 This basically sums up why I have hope : If the solar wind magnetic field remains southward, there should be aurora visible as far south as Northern California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and Virginia tonight, Friday, October 24th. The time of highest activity for any given observing site is around 11 pm local time. Observers should check the sky every half hour after sunset, however.

http://www.keweenawimage.com/cklist.html Here's a checklist for watching the Aurora

And the ultimate tool (both take forever to load):
http://www.sec.noaa.gov/Aurora/#kpmaps Thishttp://www.sec.noaa.govThis will tell you how high the KP must be to see the Aurora in your area
http://www.sec.noaa.gov/rt_plots/kp_3d.html This will tell you how high the KP is going to be for the next 3 days

Other general tips:
~Go to an open area clear of any artificial lighting
~Try to go to an area that is not directly south of any major cities/towns
~Try to get to as high as elevation as possible
~Be patient
EDIT: ~ a very important obvious tip: look in the sky to the north =)

Anyone else have any other tips? I am hoping (against a strong chance) to see the phenomenon all the way from Central Illinois (University of Illinois to be exact)

EDIT: here's some pictures of what it COULD look like...notice the effect gets diminished the farther south you go:

I think I missed it. 🙁 KP was 7 about 6PM here, and I needed a 7 to see, I guess. :|

It should actually be higher tommorrow night, fyi.

Also, from what I understand, it will always be best viewing conditions 11pm local time regardless. If you think about it, it will make sense.
