Tips for taking the ACT test?

This Saturday I'm going to be taking the ACT test at the local highschool.
Now, the things I do know are:
The test lasts roughly four hours
There are different sections, such as reading, math and science.
Calculators are permitted
Its better to guess than to not fill in the answer

Other than that, I'm not sure of any other semi important things.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions, (like what to expect, ect) for taking this test please fill me in.

Thanks.

Get a good night sleep the night before. It tests what you've learned throughout your life, so I didn't bother studying for it. Sleep is all that is needed.

Expect trig questions.

Wha??

Are you sure you're talking about the ACT??

Yeah, its too bad I have never taking a trig class. I took pre-calc not too long ago though. Looks like I'll just have to guess on all the trig and geometry questions.

I thought Trig was incorporated into most precal classes.

You're right, but I only took math 1050.

All the trig is pretty basic-the kind you probably covered in geometry.

Don't worry about it. Sleep well, eat well, dress comfortably, relax. It's not an incredibly difficult test.

as long as you know ur basic tan, sin, cos stuff you'll be fine. I find the test a lot easier than the SAT. I scored a 32 on the ACT with no calculator. I only scored 1400 on the SAT.

Make sure you bring a calculator that you can use (that's how I messed up). I brought a TI-89 to the test but couldn't use it (which is why I could not use a calculator at all). Good luck.

Oh and take the above post's advice and get a good (at least) 9 hr sleep.

edit for clarity: I couldn't use the TI-89 because it is one of several calculators that the ACT does not allow you to use. You'll be fine using a TI-85, 83, 83+, or 86 though.

I had no trig when I took it as a sophmore in highschool and still managed a 30. It's not too tough.

Studying isn't needed like was said above, but if you do want to look over something, just do some of the problems on the practice test they give you when you registerd. It can't hurt.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. Sleep is something I've been lacking lately, but I'll be sure to get a good rest the night before the test.

And Ocuflox, all the colleges around here (Utah) require an ACT score.

Yeah I will be taking the ACT on Saturday as well. I took it in 7th grade as part of some BS talent search program thing which I managed a 21.

why do people take the act - u dont need to - just take sat

some colleges require it

my high school required it. Studying doesn't have that much of an efect but I studided the kaplan and got a 29 so no complaints. Best advice just chill. Oh and don't spend to much time on any one problem, you might run out of time and miss one you know.
