Related to my other post (but a different subject), http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2251134.

The card is quite long and large; taking up two slots with the fan and shroud. This poses a problem.. my case and motherboard (I have a HP m9250f, if that helps) really weren't designed for large graphics cards.

Case in point: there is a lever or button (can't remember which) that you must press in order to remove the graphics card from the slot. Trouble is, this button is completely obstructed (can post a photo if necessary) by the shroud!

Had to take this video card out once before (can't remember why, exactly..) and it was a total pain in the ass to do so; I think I had to completely disassemble my machine (including taking the mobo out of the case). Any tips/tricks to make this easier?

Use a pencil, eraser side, to push on the lever from the back side of the card.

You can use other instruments, just make sure if you slip you're not going to gouge your board or card.

Edit: Oh I looked up that board.

The above method won't work but it's a weak lock, you should be able to just wiggle the card and remove it.

This is no different than any other person removing a video card from a clipped slot (anything AGP or newer pretty much). If you can't come in above it, it's a really bad video card design, nothing to do with your case or motherboard (unless there is some massive heasink obscuring the clip).

Most PCIe clips are of the spring loaded "seesaw lever" variety, so every single time I remove a card from my motherboard, I spend no less than 5 minutes fumbling with it before I remember that Asrock uses clips that just slide forwards and backwards to release. What I am saying is grab a flashlight and make sure you are trying to operate the right type of mechanism.

Can you not access it from above the card? That's how I push the levers on mine.

I cut the locking tab off of all my boards, because they're freaking stupid.

When did you get over the fear that the card might not "be well secured" without the tab?

I always balk at doing things like that, but it looks like a good idea.

You don't seem to be the type of person inhibited by too much caution. And again -- it's a good idea . . .
