I've heard using bleach and hot water helps.

You might try getting a "snake" and using that to see if you can break up the clog. If that doesn't work or you can't get a hold of one, try taking apart the elbow under the sink to see if it's clogged up.

They actually make these devices that pump up with air pressure and clear clogs that way... I saw them on QVC.

I recommend trying a plunger like Zap suggested....

Also, go to your local hardware store and you can buy a drain snake. They usually are a thin metal piece with a screw thing on the end to help pick the clog.

2 step process that I use with plunger...

1. Pour a box of Armand Hammer Baking soda down drain. Run warm water just enough to get the A&H down the drain a little, not to much.
2. Then pour Vinger down drain
3. Now as soon as the vinger hits the A&H take the plunger and go to town on the drain.

I had a bad clog that draino etc... would not fix, so i did what I juts said and it was fixed in no time.

I highly recommend having a plumber come in and do it right....just bite the bullet and spend the money. (Check the local phone books for a coupon.) They will come in with a small drill w/a snake attachment, dismantle the pipes, and it will all be over quickly. After it's done, you can start a regimen of using enzymes to keep the pipes cleared of muck. Also, you should avoid getting any foodstuffs down there as best you can; I hope you are using some kind of strainer.

As someone who has tried it myself, gotten dirty/wet and spilled a bunch of water into the cabinets, then ended up calling a plumber anyways....just do it.

I would bet there is something down there that the liquid plumber will not dissolve. Being a landlord, I have seen many a clogged sink that do not respond to the liquid plumber treatment. Have you removed the trap under the sink and check there? If there is no clog there then a snake is your next option. If that does not work call a plumber.

On a side note, I had a tenant melt old candles on his stove to make a new candle. After making the candle he realized he had melted too much wax. What did he do? Well, he poured it down the sink, of course. That was a royal pain to repair. You haven't been making candles lately, have you?:D

one more thing.....especially since you've been using lots of drain opener liquids (hydrocloric acid) and now someone is recommending baking soda & vinegar; do you really want to open your pipes and have that kind of stuff come spilling back out at you?

leave it to the professionals

(no, I am not a plumber)

Have you actually tried taking it apart?

There's a good chance it's just clogged at the trap.

It's plumbing, not rocket surgery.
