Tips for getting into STALKER

I really want to get into STALKER, I really do but I just can't bring myself to play the game for more than 30 minutes and even then I feel overwhelmed by the interface and the amount of stuff to do. I like shooters and I like RPGs like Oblivion and STALKER sounds like a pretty fun mix between the two.

Any cool must-have mods like there are for Oblivion? Any tips for getting into STALKER? Anything at all?
 
Oblivion... I have (un)installed it about fifty times already... cavern cleaning quickly gets annoying.

Stalker is totally different - you can't freely move around and scores of bandits keep spawning in loading places which makes the game extremely tedious when playing above novice level. Is there an armored car mode to cut down the travel time? 😉
 
Get the 10 Day Quest mod. It gives you 10 days to complete a quest instead of 1 day, nothing else ... but that little change made all the difference for me. It's a much more manageable and enjoyable game with it.

I wouldn't recommend anything else if it's your first time through.
