Tips for a wet shaving noob?

So I've been thinking about taking up wet shaving for some time now and for xmas yesterday my fiancee surprised me with a nice setup.

I got:

A Merkur Progress razor
Crabtree & Eveyln wood handled badger hair brush
A sampler pack with various brands of blades to try
Crabtree & Eveyln "Naturals" shave creme and post-shave stuff

Here is a pic of everything.

I've been reading up a bit on the Badger & Blade forums, etc.

Anyone have any good tips for a rookie?

Shave your entire body. This way you'll know what you want to continue shaving.

It's the only way to be sure.

LOL.

I tried that once. Truer words were never spoken:laugh:

If you decide you don't like it, I have dibs on the brush. And razor. I collect them, and would love a modern adjustable.

My only tip is to make sure your pores are open and that you keep them warm. That's the big difference.

Just completed my first shave. I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Very smooth shave with the no cuts at all!

I used the Crystal blade for my first shave as advised by many on the shaving forums.

The one thing that threw me off which I didn't know until reading some more after the fact. The C & E naturals creme is a very light lathering creme. At first I thought I was doing something wrong not being able to get as much as a bubble in my cup. It still seems to provide a nice shave sans the lather though, and the scent is pretty nice.

When you finish off the soap in the kit, try Williams Mug shaving soap. The stuff is great and you smell like dead cow (tallow).

I actually just bought a cake of Williams at the corner drug store, for $0.98 I figured if I didn't like it, I wasn't really losing anything!
