Some other threads got me thinking here.. do you tip the Mailman and Newpaper person? I have no idea who these people even are.. I've never met them. The mailperson just jams the mail into my mailbox at a central mail location in my subdivision and the newspaper person just throws them out his car window at the very end of my driveway or lawn.

Growing up, we knew the mailman.. he delivered mail every day to our house, to the box next to our front door.. and the newspapers were usually delivered nicely on our front porch. Then, I could understand tipping. now its so impersonal.

I'd tip the paper person if the paper was on the porch every morning.

They actually do throw papers at yards like in the movies? I figured that was just a movie thing. Here it's actually delivered right to the mailbox which is usually next to the door.

I don't get the paper here but when I lived at my parents sometimes they'd tip the paper boy.

My dad's a letter carrier and goes door to door pretty often. He knows almost everyone on his route, some for years, and a few get him small gifts or bake him bread or other treats for special occasions/holidays. I've never heard or tipping though.

I tip the newspaper guy, he delivers it to my apartment front door which means going up a flight of stairs or taking the elevator.

Do you tip an iceberg?

I don't tip anyone but waiters, waitresses, and airport shuttle bus drivers.
