I just had a NordicTrack Elliptical machine installed at my house. I bought it from Sears and paid $80 for "professional installation." The installers, in turn, were contacted and paid the $80 by Sears (Sears doesn't net anything on the installation). The installation "company" seems to be just a husband/wife combo for this installation, and not a large installation company. Anyway...they came over, did the install, and I wasn't sure whether or not I should tip. I'm just wondering now for future instances...should you tip for this, assuming that they already got paid $80 for it?

I'd say no. This isn't like the pizza guy that's making close to minimum wage if you don't count tips - same thing with the UPS guy, you don't tip unless your a very regular customer in which case you give a small year end gift the same as you would give a postman or newspaper boy.

I wouldn't tip. Tipping is more reserved for things where the person goes beyond what they were supposed to do... IE lightning-fast delivery, good tables service, etc. They were only there to install the thing... I don't think it really counts.

I dont know about that situation, but for the love of christ people, tip your pizza delivery drivers and tip them well...

I'm working at dominoes part time now and it pisses me off when someone doesn't tip.. Or gives you a .36cents tip or whatever the closest dollar amount is in tip. just because the order came up to $19.84 doesn't mean you just give the driver a $20, especially if we have to freaking drive more than 10 minutes to get to you.... as you all know, gas isn't cheap these days, and all those delivers add up...
So the next time you order a pizza, do me a favor and tip your delivery guy somewhat generously...

sorry, off my rant now...

What did they do to install it besides drop it off in your living room or wherever and plug it in? Did they have to put it together? I'm just curious.

If all they did was install it, then no tip.

OTOH, if they gave you pointers on how to use it, clean it etc.. , then tip them.

You're so right about the pizza guy.

But you don't need to tip the installers, or other people who are fairly well paid to begin with. Only service people whose livelihood depends on it.

Pizza delivery is slightly different from appliance installation. I'm pretty sure they make a little more than the delivery guys so there's no reason to be tipping them unless they did an exceptional job. They don't require tips to compensate the majority of their pay.

I wouldn't have tipped them unless they were exceptionally nice and pleasant, etc.
