Tip the furniture delivery guys?

I'm thinking yeah.

It's one of the coldest days of the season and they're probably making crap wages.

It'll probably be two guys so $10 each will bring them a good lunch.

They make more than you think. My brother is a delivery person. He says he does not expect a tip, but it happens every day.

For stuff I really am glad I didnt have to do such as movers and delivers I will tip. For simple things that arent really a big deal I dont really tip as much (pizza guy etc) but that friggin furniture is a biyatch.

Depends. Do you live on the 3rd floor and have no elevator for your huge couch? Or will they pull up and walk 20 ft into your living room and set it down? Level of effort would determine if I tip or not.

Just an FYI, I have found tipping appliance delivery people gets your old stuff taken away for free when otherwise they wouldn't touch it.

I couldn't resist ... they gave me a four hour window for the delivery, so here I am neffing.

There's a heavy Desk and hutch, chair and a half, loveseat and couch. It shouldn't be hard for them, it's a pull up and walk 20 feet thing, but still it's 19 derees windchill makes it feel like 5, and it's pretty icy out.

Usually yes, but I had a guy refuse actually. He just wouldn't do it... :roll:

My city will pick up my couches with my regular garbage I just have to put a $2.25 sticker on it and the garbage guy calls a truck to pick it up.... If the scavengers don't come by first...

These couches are so awful... It's like a breath of fresh air to get rid of them. They were second-hand when I got them, and they've been with us 8 years, through 3 toddlers and a puppy. I would be scared to turn on a black light around them. They need to be incinerated.

I'ma post a sign on them that says UGLY in huge letters and underneath in parentheses a tiny (free)

(I do wish that our society would simply do away with "mandatory" tips entirely. It seems little more than an excuse by businesses to pay their employees less. Many many jobs have "good customer service" as an assumed requirement of the job itself. If you don't meet it, you're fired, simple as that.)

I also wish mandatory tipping would disappear, but go ahead and hand over the $20. If you can afford new furniture, you will never miss $20, but you can use it to make somebody's day. Make sure they're both standing there when you hand it over and mention that it's for "you guys" and they'll "have to split it", just in case the one guy isn't feeling as generous as you are.

I tipped mine when they delivered in a snowstorm and it was a tight fit. And there were 5 items. Otherwise I've never tipped them.

For stuff like that I'd tip if they go out of their way or if it's just particularly a PITA. If they have to carry a couch down 5 flights of stairs, some greenbacks help make sure the cabinet gets carried instead of surfed

They're getting paid to drive there. They're getting paid to deliver. They're getting paid to unload. Etc. Etc.
I wish I got tipped for doing my job on top of working.

needs to be figured out beforehand. Ask the sales rep if their delivery staff works for tips or are paid not to.

I scewed my last delivery people unintentionally. They were coming after 10am...my ISP was to come after 4pm. My ISP showed up at close to 9am when I was getting ready to drive to the bank for cash.

Unfortunately those two clowns couldn't fix the internet problem and told me 'my house was incompatible'. I only had a $20 and two teams from differnet stores (5 guys). The group with only a couple pieces got nothing except ice cold water bottles, but they sent 3 guys and I felt bad....the group that moved most of my stuff got $20, and I felt bad. Both teams loaded up my old stuff on their trucks and cleaned up all the packing materials.

Both I wanted to tip more because they did a great job, both said it was ok for what I gave and told me most don't tip.

Most don't understand the tip system or simply chose to ignore it to extend their dollar. Most also expect their lower wage encounters to have a better work ethic than they do I suspect.
