I don't wonder. They're too true-to-life to be fabricated.

Last time I checked, Mt. Dew doesn't exhibit any phosphorescent or self luminescent characteristics of any kind.

It fluoresces moderately with 200 mW of 532 nM (Coherent Compass DPSS laser used for source) and we can observe a 200 mS decay of persistence which is about typical given the known assay.

Purple Jolly Ranchers, OTOH, have decays well in excess of 1000 mS which is quite eerie. We tried more optical input (moving up the scale to the Melles Griot Class IV DPSS) but the candy started to get ablated during the experiment. We may try a larger KTP800 in Q-switch mode but it isn't worth the risk exploding the specimen all over the lab! :Q Perhaps we'll try the shoot outdoors.

Mountain Dew is yellow.
Surge is green.

Unfortunately almost no place in NYC sells surge.

UCF tap water glows greenish yellow. Is that OK to drink?

Addendum to tip of the day:

If you're at a bladder bust and your beer tastes like piss, it probably is.
