Tip: Hotbar - Be Warned!

never used hotbar but i have heard of it - this is just plain shocking!
at the very least it means i will read the agreements for this stuff b4 using....well i might give it a cursory glance at least😉

thanks for the vigilance!

That sounds like a "legal" way of stealing passwords. Heck, UPS might have permission to take my computer now - I checked tracking info on something; there's a checkbox there that links to "Terms and Conditions". I just checked it, and clicked "Submit" without reading those terms. Heck, they might have taken away my rights to free speech, and my fair usage rights. Oh wait, the US government is trying to do that now anyway. Nevermind. 😛

My brother called me complaining of fatal exceptions and crashes whenever he clicked on anything. Apparently, he had downloaded a variant of the ILookup adware Explorer Toolbar installing a .dll named bmeb.dll that was causing the exceptions in explorer.exe.

Although I told him how to manually remove it, Lavasoft Ad-Aware is a great thing.

Yep, their pop-up tries to ride Microsoft's coattails by proclaiming boldly that

Outlook is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation

with the implied meaning that Hotbar has something to do with Microsoft.

My mum recently called me saying her computer was slowing down and crashing constantly.

It didn't take me long to track down hotbar as the cause - but what was worse was that she'd actually gone and bought 'hotbar premium' along with a renewing subscription.

After trying to explain the evil of this software, i eventually uninstalled it - and wrote a fierce tirade to hotbar, which prompted a refund and cancellation of the subscription.
