I've gotten myself involved in too many of these tipping flames here on ATOT. This is one I will stay out of.
Tipping wouldn't be such a hot subject if they didn't make $2.13hr or in many cases $0 per hour and rely solely on tips.

The American treatment of the peons that serve them is atrocious.
Blah blah blah... servers in my state make $7.50/hr. plus tips (not "with" tips, "plus" tips). Skilled servers in nicer restaurants and bars can easily make more than $50k/year, more than enough for you to consider a "rich Republian," Dave.

Did you know the Bush administration is pushing for a repeal of states that pay servers over $2.13 hr.

There are seven states that pay over $2.13hr, you are apparently in one of them.

The new Federal law will trump your state.

Smile at your server when the law is passed.

What's wrong Dave, gas prices got you down so you're over in OT?

I would like to see where Bush is pushing to repeal server pay. Not saying I don't believe it but where's the info? Show me and you get a :cookie:

Enjoy America, this is what you wanted.

8-2-2006 Republicans slash wages of the already poor, set tipped wage to $2.13 hr

Nevada, California and Washington are among seven states where workers get to keep their tips on top of getting paid their state's full minimum wage. In other states, tip-earning workers get paid less and make up the difference with tips.

A provision in GOP-written minimum wage legislation passed by the House and under consideration this week by the Senate could change the law in those seven states ? the others are Montana, Alaska, Minnesota and Oregon. It would deal a pay cut of $3 or more an hour to thousands of waiters, bellhops and hairdressers in those states.

"Everything that has been achieved in seven states to support low-wage workers who earn tips is destroyed by this bill," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

"This bill would slash the salaries of thousands of workers."

Except for in the seven states at issue, employers of tipped employees now pay only a portion of the minimum wage ? starting at $2.13 an hour ? as long as the employees draw enough tips to make up the rest. A tipped employee is defined as one who regularly receives more than $30 per month in tips.

Since your link sucks I can't see where the Bush Admin is mentioned. Does anything done by Repubs=Bush or are you just bitter?

IMO, if you can't make a decent wage on $2.13+tips then you should consider another job. I did it to pay for school and it's not that tough. Where did this sense of entitlement in America come from?

Looks like Yahoo's News links expire which does suck.

here is today's rose colored glasses report for you:

9-18-2006 GOP talk of vibrant economy rings hollow

FALMOUTH, Ky. - Used boots fetch $3 and old salt-and-pepper shakers bring in a buck at a makeshift flea market along Highway 27, presumably not what President Bush and Republicans have in mind when they herald a vibrant economy.

Times are "very good for the rich and very, very bad for the poor" who "can't afford to live," laments Larry Mitchell, 43, a now-and-then merchant peddling his wares recently in a submarine sandwich shop parking lot. He says the middle class is "having a hard time."

At a nearby diner, waitress Jeanine Gordon, 32, who makes the minimum wage, mused about her latest trouble ? her van has been in the shop for a week because she and her husband can't afford to fix it.

"This is the least I've ever made in my entire life," the Republican and mother of three said. "The gas prices went up and the tips went down."

So every economist says that the economy is growing, albeit as a slower rate, unemployment is at 4.7% and they find a few examples of people selling used boots and working in a diner to back their points (harsh but true). I have been at the same job since I got out of school in 2000 and have seen my wages increase every year. I can now afford things that I couldn't back then because of my hard work.

I was broke for a few years but it paid off in the end like I figured it would. Why should I feel sorry for someone who chooses not to better themselves? Most would rather find someone to blame rather than take any personal responsibility for their actions.

When people realize they have the power to control their own futures we will be much better off.

Until then, we have Dave to make sure their whiney voices are heard.

Good because those on high horses don't give a crap.
