Gang,
Hopefully this will help someone as I figured this out tonight. Just got my new Ti4400 from Gateway for $234.. great deal.. upgrading from a Geforce3 with Det4 28.32 drivers, I thought it would be no problem..
So I slap the new card it, and reboot.. as it tries to install the new drivers, or rather re-install the same old drivers, everytime XP detects the new video card and finishes the driver installation, it tells me that the "Device could not start, code 10" and the installation fails. No matter what I try -- restoring back to an old system restore point, downgrading the drivers to 27.70, nothing works -- every installation fails..not only that, but my monitor is also coming back as "default monitor".. barf..
Then, I remember I'm running my monitor off of the BNC cable.. did it to try to improve image quailty (it did a little).. and I also remember that BNC does *not* work with Plug and Play.. So I swap out my BNC for my old D-Sub cable, and sure enough, montior works, video card works, life is good again..
I haven't swapped back to my BNC cable, but I can't imagine having problems again.. so hopefully this will help someone out before they pull all their hair our trying to figure out what was wrong..
Back to my gaming w/ 4 sample AA..
cheers,
