TinyXP or WinXp x64, which is better for gaming?

I have a question that has been bouncing around my head.

I use a dual boot system, and I use a WD Raptor for my gaming. I ONLY install video card and sound card drivers, then games. That?s IT.

I want the most amount of resources free for my games, so which should I go with? TinyXP, which boasts to boot windows XP using only around 40 MB of RAM and will still game! Or Windows X64 edition?

What would be my benefit of going with winxp X64 if I only game and have no 64 bit games? I will have a Core2Duo, so it is a 64 bit capable system. :p

I would suggest against using modified versions of Windows. TinyXP worries me.
All created by a man who goes by the name of eXPerience in forums. He claims to have no formal IT/computer training whatsoever.

I dont want your next stop to be AT Technical support..... Removing critical windows parts can cause unknown problems. It would be a better idea to just get 2gb of ram and not worry about ram usage from Windows. This TinyXP sounds like Black Viper all over again.....

Also, it would be a good idea to install your motherboard's chipset drivers as well.

as for my thoughts on windows xp 64bit... you can read them here.

With those various issues with WinXP x64, it seems I may as well TRY TinyXP and see if it works... As long as the networking works, then I should be fine for playing games... (crossing my fingers)

Not to mention, since I will have such a small amount of stuff on the HD, reformatting back to regular winxp wont be a huge undertaking.

Does anyone on these forums HAVE experience with TinyXP?

x64 XP is not and never will be a good platform for games. Not that it couldn't be, it's just that there will never be drivers at parity with x86 XP because next to no one runs this system. In addition there are some compatibility issues with a number of games because their copy protections won't work in 64 bit. Vista x64 will probably see much better support and will eventually be just as good as the 32 bit version for games.

No experience with TinyXP so I can't speak to how well it works. Personally I'd use nLite to strip out what I know I don't need if I were really concerned about resources. I wouldn't build a new c2d gaming system with less than 2GB anyway, and a clean XP install should leave nearly 90% of that left over for games, even without stripping things out.

Which is pointless, it may help initial load times of the first game you start but it won't affect in-game performance.
