cool PC fits into a 5.25 bay
cool
base price is $895

They took one and put it into a 5.25 bay of a Mac/G4 and ran them through a kvm to the Samsung PIP 17" LCD and had both the mac and pc running, with the mac in the PIP!!!

Cool deal if you have the $$$

Heck, I got 2 lungs - might as well get rid of one and install this sucker in it's place. Talk about a portable PC! :Q

you can build yourself one for much less - but without the power of the P3 1Ghz - with ITX systems. check out this site for more info:

Nice, but a Shuttle small PC form is a more practical desktop solution. This unit is just a laptop without the screen, i.e. no room for any type of expansion.

It was a repeat, they had that show a few weeks ago. Pretty cool how they can fit it all in a cd drive. I dont think they make any Via ITX boards that small though like someone mentioned
.

Not really with the onboard audio/video. Go mini-itx. You can get stock cases with dimensions of 11 1/2" x 10 3/4" x 2 1/2" with 1 pci slot for some quality audio or video and the ability to use large (120gb) low cost desktop hard drives. The cost would be about half of this unit.

Here is a more affordable micro ATX ?Book PC? barebone system Link. I run one of these as a multimedia PC connected to the big screen via the TV out. They have other models on the site.

I never knew PC/104+ SBCs have started using P3s. Most I've seen awhile back were ARM 206Mhz CPUs.

IMO, I think it's more of a proprietary board layout, if not reconfigured mini Flex-ATX form. There are mini Flex-ATX boards that are the same size as ITX boards, measuring at 170mm x 170mm

I actually had an Amiga 3000 running with a 386 PC board, "bridgeboard", way back in 1993. The system could even share the hard drive between the two operating systems, as well as video (though it emulated, slow), keyboard, mouse, and sound. The internal had a free ISA slot for PC expansion. Both operating systems could run at the same time and even cut-paste within each other. Now THAT was an amazing feat of technology back in the days.

Yes several manufacturers have been shipping Socket 370 PC/104's.
Here's a jumptec for example: http://www.dpie.com/pc104/mopslcd7.html

Not as popular as 3/486s and Pentiums though. Embedded PCs are not intended for general use, and usually don't require the processing horsepower of the newer chips.

just checked the dimensions and the depth is ~3" deeper but the height and width are less than a typical head unit (compared it to dimensions of an alpine 7998). if you have the space, it would make for an interesting multimedia/pc setup in the car...
