get it done professionally (like AutoAmeristar or First Class Auto) and you'll be very happy. I'm getting limo (100%)almost all the way around in my explorer. Thinking about getting a small (4") mirror tint at the bottom all the way around, but the tint shops refuse to do it and said it's a 6 point reckless endangerment ticket. I can't afford that right now.

85% (dark...15% visible) is a nice and dark shade to go with.

You get what you pay for. No doubt.

Use a reputable installer.

Make sure to get a fully metallic tint (so it won't fade purple)

Find someone who will do the rear window in one big piece (not two)

Hopefully, get one with a lifetime warranty

I got 38% fully metallic Formula One tint all around and it's got a lifetime free replacement warranty

I saw a moron on the highway yesterday who tried to tint his own windows.....the film was on the OUTSIDE of his windows, wrinkled stylishly, and not really cut to the proper size yet.

I spent a long time imagining how much alcohol and drugs it took him to get to the point where he was satisified with the job and decided it was done.

Yeah, just pony up and have a pro do it. I paid $160 to have all my windows tinted on my Accord and I couldn't be happier. In some states its illegal to have the front passenger windows tinted. I had mine done anyway with a fairly light tint. Most of the time cops won't pull you over specifically for that, especially if its not too dark. I had the rear done with 15%; I think that's one shade lighter then limo.

Question - would a "medium" tint, meaning not limo black, but considerably darker than stock windows, do anything to keep my nice black leather interior cooler on hot, sunny, summer days?

Do any of these tints offer UV protection? I am thinking of getting it for my Accord.

It doesn't necessarily have to be darker than stock. Most states only allow 35% film (allows 35% of visible light through the windows), however, some stock is 50-70% so your legal limit might be darker than stock.

In order to utilize cooling the car, you will need fully metallic tint, as others have mentioned in this thread.

My tint @ 38% is quite light during the day yet blocks something like 65% of the heat...keeps the interior much cooler than it used to be

and yes, most tint has UV protection in it

but not all. Don't be fooled. Make sure you ask if it has UV protection.
