Tin plated copper RAM sinks

Im planning on getting an ATI Radeon 8500 soon, and overclocking the memory. Im going to get a retail board, to ensure I get the 3.6ns memory. I also plan on getting RAM sinks to help overclock it.

Now, Ive seen copper RAM sinks at many places, and also tin plated copper RAM sinks, which are slightly more expensive. Is there any real advantage in performance when using the tin plated ones over the plain copper sinks?

Would another type of RAM sink work better?

I dont think there is a performance advantage... but by coating them in tin, they dont tarnish, as copper tends to do... I just got the tin ones in myself. they are perty. Im using a crystal orb for the GPU, so it should look even better.

The tin plated HS's are mainly for looks, no real world advantage at all. What would give you a good advantage would be a fan blowing at the RAM HS's.

The RAM is on both sides of the Radeon 8500, right? Would one intake fan on the side of the case work? I know you can put a fan in the PCI slot for the bottom side, but what about the top?

i have tin sinks on both sides of my 8500 (check my case pics) the sinks do not get hot enough to require a fan....dont really get hot at all...just warm...

Yeah you can get a fan bracket to blow air down on the card. Mine should be here any minute! They also have the ram sinks at that site, although they look quite pricey to me.

Also try going to your local Radio Shack and take a look at their HUGE aluminum heat sinks that fit memory chips. They are much cheaper and have great performance according to my experience and a review I read.
