Nope, but I know some who did and they found it incredibly disturbing.

If it's the one you can easily find, it's fake. As far as I know the real recording isn't out there.

A friend watched the Daniel Pearl video and, to this day, wishes that he hadn't. I'll pass.

Can you show any evidence of that????

Kinda hard to prove a negative... :D

I just read about it on reddit and the one you posted was the one I found, which was proven to be fake. I briefly searched last night and that was the only version I found. Sounds fake too; the real audio was said to be ~6 minutes long, with indistinct bear sounds.

The original tape was given to a friend of Timothy's, and the general consensus is that she probably really wouldn't want to go around distributing audio of her friend's horrific death.

Do a search for Grizzly man if you dare to.

Wikipedia notes:

In the end, it was a single surly bear that did him in at a point later in the year than Treadwell was traditionally still living in the park. The bear that killed Treadwell and his girlfriend was not one of the bears Treadwell usually encountered. This too seems to have been confirmed by the manner of his demise. Rangers had warned Treadwell before his death that they did not want to have to harm bears to come to his rescue. In the end, two bears were killed in the effort to retrieve his remains and those of his companion. A video camera, with the lens cap in place, was recovered at the site. The video camera had been turned on at some point during the attack, presumably by Huguenard, but the camera only recorded six minutes of audio before running out of tape. Troopers who were at the scene describe the audio as chilling. There are no plans to ever make the recording public.

Damn...

In October 2003, Treadwell and his girlfriend, physician assistant Amie Huguenard (born October 23, 1965, in Buffalo, New York), visited Katmai National Park, which is on the Alaska Peninsula across Shelikof Strait from Kodiak Island. In Grizzly Man, Werner Herzogstates that according to Treadwell's diaries, Huguenard feared bears and felt deeply uncomfortable in their presence. Her final journal entries indicated that she wanted to be away from Katmai.[10] Treadwell chose to set his campsite near a salmon stream where grizzlies commonly feed in autumn. Treadwell was in the park later in the year than usual,[2] at a time when bears attempt to gain as much fat as possible before winter, and limited food supplies cause them to be more aggressive than in other months. Food was scarce that fall, causing the grizzly bears to be even more aggressive than usual.[11]

Treadwell was to leave the park at his usual time of year but extended his stay a week in an effort to locate a favorite female brown bear. He said he hated modern civilization and felt better in nature with the bears than he did in big cities around humans. The bears he had been used to during the summer had already gone into hibernation, and bears that Treadwell did not know from other parts of the park were moving into the area. Some of the last footage taken by Treadwell, hours before his death, includes video of a bear diving into the river repeatedly for a piece of dead salmon. Treadwell mentioned in the footage that he did not feel entirely comfortable around that particular bear. In Grizzly Man, Herzog posits that Treadwell may have filmed the very bear that killed him.[2]

The camera had been turned on just before the attack, presumably by Treadwell, but the camera recorded only six minutes of audio before running out of tape. This, however, was enough time to record the bear's initial attack on Treadwell and his agonized screams, its retreat when Huguenard attacked it, its return to carry Treadwell off into the forest, and Huguenard's screams of horror as she is left alone.

Poor chick, she didn't like being around bears (I gotta wonder why the hell she agreed to go in the first place???) so not only does he take her when they are the most aggressive in a year where food was scarce but he extended his stay an extra week. It is hard to really feel bad about Treadwell, you can only play with fire so many times before you get burned, but that is really messed up about his girlfriend. She even had the guts to attack the bear to try and save him! And they got eaten the day or night before they were leaving.

So ATOT experts, you are in that situation and your buddy just got attacked and dragged off into the woods by a grizzly bear leaving you alone. Your air taxi is coming to pick you up the next day so you don't have to survive alone that long, what do you do?

There's a video on YouTube of a sloth bear in an Indian zoo ripping a man's face off while visitors outside the bear's enclosure are screaming. It's a grainy video so you can't see every detail but it's pretty gruesome. I highly recommend not watching it.

Yeah the one you find is fake.

Werner Herzog discussed this in his documentary on Treadwell, he even listens to the tape.

He wasn't an actual bear expert though. He was just some jackass that went out fucking around by bears. That's not to say he didn't learn a thing or two (although nothing that other scientists didn't already know, but then that didn't stop him from believing he was the only one that "cared about the bears" and calling everyone else assholes - he full on rants about it on video footage he took). The sad part is he convinced that woman to go up there, knowing how dangerous it was (the area he was in was well trafficked by bears, right by a popular source of food for them; he had already had encounters with a bear he wasn't familiar with and I believe had shown that might be following him; and I believe food had been scarce that year so the bears were hunting farther into the season trying to get enough food to hibernate).

Saw this on Wiki:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_bear_attacks_in_North_America

Patrick Cooper, 16, male June 18, 2017 Wild Indian, Alaska Cooper was chased and mauled by a bear while running in the juniors' division of the Bird Ridge trail's running race. Cooper texted his family after completing the race, to say he was being followed by a bear. Searchers found the runner's remains 500 yards from the trail and shot the bear in the face with a shotgun, which scared the bear and forced him into the woods away from the body.

Yes, he was out there very late in the season when bears become much more aggressive for food, especially when you add in the fact that food was scarce that year. Also worth noting is the bears he was used to/were used to him during the summer weren't there, instead he set up his camp near a salmon stream (i.e. one of their feeding spots) where bears from other parts of the park were coming down to feed. To make matters even worse he extended his stay another week after already pushing their luck and they were killed either the day before or the day of their pickup. The air taxi pilot that picking them up is who called the park rangers after they didn't show.

Not only did he talk his girlfriend into coming with him but she was terrified of bears. Poor thing had to watch it attack him, then she hit the bear trying to defend him, watch it drag him into the woods and be left completely alone out there. No telling how long she was alone before the bear came back for her, I gotta assume he at least partially ate the guy first before going after her. She was absolutely terrified for at least a little while before she was finally killed. If it was daytime I would have de-assed the area with the quickness but if it was nighttime that is a lot harder but pretty damn sure I would have still de-assed the area.

Mentioned this before but good friends of my parents the Craigheads who were biologist working on the Grizzly bears in the yellowstone ecosystem in the 50s to the 70s, The National Park service wanted to close down all the garbage dumps where the bears would congregate. Anyway the two Craighead brothers argued against the rapid closure saying it would be dangerous for the visitors. NPS didn't listen and closed them practically overnight bears started to go into campgrounds to look for food and several people were killed.

I was fortunate to visit the Craigheads in the late 70s at their ranch in the middle of Jackson hole valley. Check this out of them releasing a moved bear. from a national Geographic TV special.
