Hello, i am deciding between the same speed memory but in different sizes (2x1Gb sticks or 2x2Gb sticks) The 2 Gb kit's timings are 7.7.7.18 @ 1.9v and the 4Gb kit is at 7.7.7.21 @ 1.8v - I am looking to do some overclocking with them too but between these two kits, would you choose the 4Gb kit or the 2Gb kit...

I've read reviews saying the 2Gb kit are great overclockers, but haven't seen any reviews about the 4Gb kit so i'm sorta stuck

EDIT:What I'm curious about is the tRAS timings of 18 on the 2Gb kit and 21 on the 4Gb kit and how that effects performance.

I assume DDR3 with those timings? Why not save a lot of money and go with DDR2?

If you're sold on DDR3, then I'd go with the 2x2GB kit probably. Are you planning to overclock the RAM, or is it fast enough that you have plenty of headroom? What CPU are you running, in what motherboard, and what are the exact models of RAM you're looking at? The more information you provide, the more meaningful the answers will be.

I do plan to overclock with a Q9300 and I think a safe speed with out much or no voltage would be 3405 which would require me to have a fsb of 454 and that is DDR 1600 I explained above. I've seen a review here:
http://www.benchzone.com/page....3_Memory_Roundup&pg=11
and read reviews from buyers over at the New Egg page and see the 2Gb kit has plenty of headroom at good timings (W1600UX2G7) i did find a better price for the W1600UX4G7 kit from a previous 4g search, still astronomically expensive and I've realized the DDR2 thing about a week ago (already went through it) and so, i'm sticking with the mobo i bought for the Q9300 (Asus P5K3 Deluxe wi/fi) ... it was an open box; better and cheaper than the current DDR2 boards i was looking at, yes, cheaper. I've tried out a set of DDR 1333 already and the machine ran great, till i did some serious RAM testing with OCCT and got reports of errors, so that's where i'm at now. I almost did go with a DDR2 setup, but the price for that would of been the same price as the 4Gb Super Talent memory I found (plus their made in the USA - Silicon Valley)

What I'm curious about is the tRAS timings of 18 on the 2Gb kit and 21 on the 4Gb kit and how that effects performance.

Thanks for the interest.

4GB of DDR3 as low as 4GB of DDR2? Where did you find that?

Haa, I wish. No, i meant, 4Gb of DDR3 for the same price as a DDR2 platform (mobo, CPU, 2Gb ram) not 4Gb DDR3 for the same price as 4Gb of DDR2. During the whole process, i started contemplating upgrading my FX60 platform with a DDR2 system but i figured to stick with the Q9300 system i recently built. I was going to hold off and let the Q9300 sit till i found some memory at a decent price. That is when I learned my lesson about DDR2 costs. I was searching for a 4Gb DDR3 kit and found the W1600UX4G7 for 400+$ and was like :( The next day came around and i searched again and I found the same kit for 350$ But the difference between the 4G and 2G kit, besides the price, is the tRAS timings. The 2G kit offeres 7.7.7.18 @ 1.9v The 4G kit offers at 7.7.7.21 @ 1.8 and I'm curious about a performance hit. I know it doesn't seem like a lot to be worried about, but I am aware of the difference between 2T and 1T

You are correct, but these kits are clocking really high and at the same timings as DDR3 1800 and I probably won't push the cpu over stock voltages, 3405=454*7.5 If you would of read the review link i posted and checked the overclocking section you would of seen what I am talking about. At benchzone, the guy has this DDR3 kit W1600UX2G7 @ 1996Mhz at 7.7.6.21 1T and that's beyond what I need for a fsb of 454 - kinda reminds you of a 454 big block, haah.
