SVT maybe?🙂

For me the current Mustang's just don't do it. A solid rear axle still? Come on Ford get with the program here. Also what is up with the plastic they used? it looks like it is out of a 80's K car.

Mustang Cobras have had an IRS for years now.

Sorry I forgot about the Cobra's. Still why should I have to get the most expensive Stang to get IRS?

Nope, SVO, Special Vehicle Operations. Until they changed the name to SVT.

I stand corrected. Didn't those SVO cars have ALOT of problems? I remember reading an article on them when they were new.

The SVO ran 14psi and the Cobras do have an IRS and I believe that may even make it down to the GT in the next update. The interior looks fine in the new models so I don't know what your talking about. My 89 on the other hand does look like an 80's K-car.

B/C the basic Mustang is a cheap Pony car. Cost prohibitive. The Mustang may not get an IRS setup for the entire range until it is shifted over to the DEW98 platform (Lincoln LS, Jaguar S-Type, Ford Thunderbird). And even then, non-Cobra mustangs may still have a solid rear axle to keep costs down.

Because IRS sucks for launching in straight line applications - its easier to do on live axle. Plus it's more expensive anyway. Before the 03 the Cobra was in 26-28k territory price wise.

I went and looked at the Mach 1 at my local dealer and personally I think the plastics look cheesy. Exposed screw holes, cheap feel/look. Granted the 305hp V-8 makes up for most of it🙂

From all the articles I have read the IRS will make it down to the GT in the update.

Granted, but not everyone uses their Stang for drags. Why not at least give the option on the GT?

Well everything is rumors now but there have been rumors that the IRS will be an option on the GT. The concept GT is basically the '03 Cobra on a new platform - same engine + IRS. No one knows for sure until it's actually released so I'm not going to argue over speculation

Nope, SVO, Special Vehicle Operations.

Until they changed the name to SVT.

SVO was terminated. SVT took over their "operations" years after SVO had been killed iirc. Not really a name change

Okay, I'll go along with that.
History lesson on SVO/SVT

EDIT - according to that link SVO was renamed, it's now part of Ford Racing.

Awesome link. Guess we're both right and wrong 🙂

I am not trying to argue over the future GT I was just asking why the current GT didn't have it as an option. Sorry, guess I was a little vauge on that.

Well, initial problems back then aside... I'm sure a lot of car nuts on this board would LOVE to get their hands on a nice SVO to work on. Those things go faster than snot with today's technology... if they can under 10s with "old" turbo technology... imagine what they can do with Garrett's GT line of turbos. :Q

Because it's price range puts it out of reach I guess. Considering there's a step up (Mach1), if anything the Mach1 should have the IRS as an option

I've never seen an SVO w/ the original motor (regardless of what turbo is on it) run 10s. There is only so much power that 2.3 liter block can push through it before it breaks, and it's not enough to run 11s, let alone 10s. Most of them run 13s. That said, I still want one.

Well seeing how the Mach1 is only a stop gap option package and will only be avaible for one year. Ford probably thought it wasn't worth it.

Some guy in HotRod Magazine takes the old turbo motors (SVO, Merkur, Capri, etc) and puts them in his pinto drag car. Cam it up using some Brazilian cam and turbo mods and runs 10's before they blow up on the 3rd or 4th pass.
