When I was younger, my dad always told me that time moves really fast... that he feels like he just got married last week and all the sudden his son is married. I've noticed the older I get, the faster it seems to move. I graduated college 5 years ago and have been in the same job for the same amount of time. I really feel like it was yesterday that I was staying up till 4am playing state of the art games like Red Alert or Duke 3d...

Reflecting back, I've done a lot, but not as much as I'd like to have done. I've spent far too much time on my ass. Too much time posting on forums, yet I still presume those trends will continue as I move on.

Its because the older you get the less time you have to do the things you want, and less time to yourself.

Have you ever noticed that time moves faster some days and slower on others. Every morning I get up at the same time, do the same things, the same way, and then go to work. I don't really do them any faster or slower. Just pretty much the same thing every morning to get ready for work. Every morning I get up at 6:30, and leave the house about 7:10. And yet, I find that sometimes I leave around 7:30, or around 6:50. I do the same thing in the same way every damned morning. Where is all that time going? I wonder if it's just my mind's perception of time that's the problem. One day I might go into my bathroom to brush my teeth, and when I come out, 3 minutes have passed. The next it might be 5. Or may'be 10.

heh - my Dad's favourite saying about time is, "It only goes one way."

I hear ya Modeps. No regrets though buddy! Think of something great in your life and say, "Well if I would have changed anything, I might not have ___..." Always seems to work for me.

< sometimes flips the bird at the clock when running late for work...

One of the best Pink Floyd songs ...

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Digging around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in a quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Heck yeah, me too. I remember staying up late playing red alert, or playing team fortress. I remember, like it was just yesterday, playing Ultima Online with my brother, and damn it that was 7.5 years ago. Time is raging along now, and years are blurring like they never used to. That's probably because when you're younger you've got a lot of milestones, going from school to school, university, new job, etc. Each milestone represents another mark on the time line. I remember 2000 and on like it was just freaking this morning.

Now that we've got skoorbaby, and she's growing so fast, I see her do things and am like "When the heck did she learn that?" Soon she'll be a toddler, then off to school, then having kids. Damn, life really does whip by!

What do I have to look forward to? Within the next year, God willing, I'll be joining the parenting world... hopefully my tiny company will finally make a dent in the world and pay off handsomly... but what else? My dad just passed his 60th birthday and my mom is right behind him... I get petrified when I think of a life without them... yet it's there. It will come.

I can't say I have lead a bad life. I'm married, we own a house and hold steady jobs. I'm a college graduate (with no desire to return for further studies)... but nothing sets me apart. I'm not unique in any way... most of you on this forum are similar to me in one way or the other... I dont know what sets me apart.

In high school, my guidance counceller once asked "What do you want to do?" my reply and it was true at the time was "I'm a simple guy, I just want to grow old with my wife and have a happy family."

Is that enough? Does any of this matter?

I think in the mid-20's it hits most people how insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things. All throughout grade school and high school they pump you full of self-esteem and false optimism, and you carry that through college. But after you graduate you realize you that life is pretty routine and no one really cares what you've accomplished. We're just lucky to have a job and a family. There are exceptions of course, but I think it applies to most people.

Some people take up golf or become active in church or go traveling. I spend my free time recording music (I'm 24 btw). I guess you just have to find diversions to get you through :)

I really like the idea of recording music, even if just to pass down in the family as a legacy. I've only recorded a couple things, and none too good, but I'll get to work on it ;)
I oughta finish that novel too

OP I'm 29. Been married 2 years and things are definitely starting to get into a groove (don't want to use the word 'lull' ;)). Kids are definitely on the horizon but I have to wait for the younger wife to catch up to me in age a bit. :)

Life can get stale every once in a while, but really.. I believe you have to learn to appreciate the quieter moments as well. Because as you said, sooner or later you're going to get thrown a curveball and the wave of change can rework your entire life - you mentioned possibly having kids and the thought of losing your parents. Both of these events would indeed apply.

I guess I'd have to say I'm in the same phase. I've also heard rumours of a 2 or 3 year 'itch' for married couples. By itch I mean just a general cabin-fever type feeling. Not sure how long you've been married but perhaps this is contributing to the low-key feeling. Frankly I'm counting on the combination of spring and the golf season to wake me the fsck up! ;)

i know exactly how you feel...i remember when i were 7 years old...and i was waiting to turn 8...those two weeks took FOREVER...now birthdays sneak up on me...i can't believe i'm 21 already...youth is slipping away fromme day by day and there isn't anything i can do about it...i just try to live like i have a very limited amount of time here, and do whatever makes me happy and damn the consequences...one of these days that is gonna land me in jail ;)

seriously though, no regrets...as long as you don't have any regrets you will die a happy man.

EDIT: holy thread resurrection batman!
