Time Warner Road Runner Woes..

Hey guys, can anyone figure out this problem I am having.

I am running Time Warner ROad Runner cable. I use the Terayon TJ715 modem that was provided for me.

I use a linksys router. ( same problem with or without the router )

Anyways, every 15 minutes or so, I get this HUGE spike, and the internet cuts off, forcing me for wait 2-3 minutes or reset the modem. The thing is the modem leds looks FINE, just normal, but nothing is going through to my computer or my brothers.

It's either fiddle with the modem to get it back, or wait a couple minutes.

I called tech support and nothing is wrong in my area, they suggest having someone come over and look at it.

Any suggestions before I make an appointment?

I had a similar problem a couple years ago (my "spikes" were further apart though, a couple hours instead of 15 minutes); getting a new modem fixed it.

Same suggestion....replace your cable modem. The ones I've had the most luck with are the Toshiba cable modems.

Alright, I will get a new modem.. since I rent it to $3 a month... and this modem is years old... maybe it's finally crapping out... When they installed it, adelphia was my provider before time warner came in... and the modem was already used when I got it years ago... sigh. We'll seee, I was thinkin the same thing...

Ages ago I had a 3com from TW. Now they seem to use the little black Motorola modems around here. I have had no issues at all with my Motorola unit.

To save yourself time, hook the computer directly to the Modem and see if the problem persists.

If it does it is RR responsibility.

Otherwise, they would tell you to call Linksys first.

Definately do what jack said, here are the steps i would take:

1) plug computer directly to modem
2) turn of computer and unplug the power cord to the modem (if you have xp you really don't need to turn it off, but it doesn't hurt)
3) wait 2 min ( this is important as the modem remembers the last mac address that was connected, and if you just plug another device into the modem it wont work)
4) plug in modem, and turn on computer.
5) see if your having the same problem, if you are contact your TWC company and dont even mention the router, if the problem goes away contact linksys.

Hope that helps

I agree with replacing the cable modem, Ive had this happen to me twice over the last couple years, both times replacing the cablemodem fixed the issue.

It is the modem... with the router, the pause is a little bit longer... ( just because it has to adjust to the modem responding again or w/e ) with the modem by itself, it pauses/dies but comes back a minute or so faster, but same problem. Ill be calling them up today to get a replacement modem.

Any chance anyone know how they get the new modem to me?

try swaping it out at your local office, thats the fastest way.

yup, that's the quickest way. i've done it twice. they just asked why am i switching it out , and i just said that's what the rep on the phone told me. i was out of there in 5 mins.

That's good to know.. weird thing is, swapped out the linksys for a 10 year old one and it's been fixed.... weird 🙁
