I was reading on how good HDTV looks in DVI vs Component and decided to call them up to see if they had any DVI boxes.

They said no prob, stop by and pick it up.

Now my Super Bowl party is complete. <<puts hands together like Mr. Burns>> Excellent.

I dunno, my Pioneer HDTV box has been acting up ever since we plugged in the DVI cable. Whenever we switch from an analog or digital channel to an HDTV channel, a whole lot of white noise is displayed for about 4 seconds before the TV syncs with the box. I thought that kind of weird, since the output from the box is fixed at 1080i (all channels are upconverted to 1080i so the TV shouldn't have to resync.)

I called up a service tech and asked him about it and he said it was because of HDCP taking a few seconds to descramble HD content?? Wack if you ask me.

Really?

What kind of set do you have? Maybe it has something to do with the set and not the box?

Sony Grand Wega III. Like I said though, this only happens with DVI and not with component.

So to you, how does DVI look compared to component?

Also, have you had any of the lamp problems that other GWIII owners have had?

They look the same, I guess. Let's just say I can tell the difference between 720p and 1080i from across the room, but I can't tell the diff between component and DVI. Its more of a color vibrance thing than a image quality thing, I think.

Don't know anything about lamp problems, but we did get the extended warranty??

GWIII buzz problem. You might want to order a new OSRAM lamp just in case your TV decides to fail after the warranty ends.

I just got the DVI out box but couldn't get it to work correctly. The picture doesn't scale to fit the screen no matter what I do, it is really slow (even to navigate menus), and the picture is actually worse than component. I've relagated it to my non HDTV 27". The one cool thing I found out was that HDTV works on my non-HDTV though the picture is about the same quality as as 480i picture.
