Time to upgrade?

Just got a new BBA Radeon X800Pro for my Athlon XP 1800+ (I got this from the Extreme Performance Project giveaway ~4 years ago 🙂) 768mb PC2700 DDR.

I played some CS:S performance isn't that great on my 2005FPW @ native widescreen res (no AA, 4x ansio). Am I expecting too much from this video card or is my CPU too slow?

I've been looking to upgrade to a Athlon 64 3000+ on a RS480M2-IL (ATI Radeon XPRESS 200) with the same memory. Then i'd have to trade my AGP x800 for a PCIe x800xl or so. Worth the money?

You could get an AGP socket 939 or get a socket 754 A64 with AGP and keep your current card.

I may be looking into a microATX mobo to put into a smaller Antec Aria case too 🙂

I think i'd stick to 939 these days. Seems to be more futureproof 🙂

Ya, time for the big mb/cpu upgrade. I'm in a similar situation with a 6600GT AGP. You can get some very good socket 939 AGP MBs now, but AGP is going the way of the dodo. Gotta face it man, PCI-E is the future.

The HL2 source engine is more CPU dependent than many games we've seen lately due to it's physics engine. You definately need a CPU upgrade. An A64 3000+ and a microATX socket 939 (if you get one) would definately be a feasable budget upgrade. Dont know how overclockable the microATX board would be though.
