Time to upgrade yet?

Just curious if there are inexpensive upgrades that are worthwhile going over this card. I play a lot of CS:S, a little WoW, and I'm waiting for Darkfall (if you haven't heard of it, it's okay hehe). I also play COD4.

Much obliged for any insight.

Thanks!

If you can overclock your cpu it might help.

If you can get your cpu to 2.8/3.0 a 4850/9800gtx+ will be perfect for those games and Far Cry 2 comes out soon.

But I have an 8800GTS.... my CPU is pretty good, quad core Q6600 @ stock speeds. I don't need cutting edge framerates, just reasonable 🙂

Sorry, You might want to update your system rig in your signiture.

Which 8800 do you have? 8800gts 320, 8800gts 640, 8800gts 512 (g92)?

All those games and Darkfall should run fine with a Q6600 and a 8800gts.

Scribe, i too have the 'itch' to upgrade my GTS, but i find there is no need to really. I run all my games at 1440x900 and have no slowdown.

The games you run should run smoothly with what you have. Wait until new hardware or software comes out that would make more sense to upgrade.

Well, I'm running a G92 8800GTS (700/1000) and I have a GTX 260 heading my way. Don't really need it (mostly play WoW, STALKER, Witcher right now) but couldn't say no to $168 shipped after MS cashback on eBay. I honestly don't expect a huge difference in performance but at my resolution (19x12 on 27" LCD) the extra memory buffer might help in texture heavy games. Plus it should crank an extra 1000 or so ppd in f@h.

Looks like he has the 8800GTS 320MB.

IMO, yes you should upgrade only if you are not satisfied with your current performance in games. Grab an HD4850, 9800GTX+, GTX260 (either version) or HD4870 (either version). The most economical choice would probably be the HD4850. If your are satisfied, just hold off upgrading until you become dissatisfied.
