Hey all. I haven't kept up with video much over the past four years or so. I'm thinking about upgrading my video card(s) and not sure where my current setup stands performance-wise against the latest, what would be a decent upgrade, and what would be the best bang-for-my-buck. I thought I'd post on here before I started going crazy with the research, maybe limit my focus a bit.
Current Setup:
Core2Duo e6800
MSI 975X Platinum mobo (Intel 975X chipset, two x16 slots)
Dual Radeon 512Mb X1900 in Crossfire mode (remember the annoying dongle cable?)
6Gb DDR2
24" LCD @ 1920x1200 (I also game in this res usually)
Windows 7 64 bit
I don't game that much anymore, but I do occasionally. Mostly 4x games, but some such as Bioshock/Bioshock2/TF2 or Oblivion; I'd like better performance in those, especially in HDR and AA. ATI moved my current cards to the 'legacy' driver, which pretty much bites. Hardly ever updated and few issues (such as massive video corruption in Bioshock2) addressed.
So... what single card is the equivalent of my setup? What single card would represent a good upgrade for 'modern' games? Something with HDCP support and probably DX11.
What would you recommend looking for in a budget of $100 - 150? (Sale / MIR prices of course, not MSRP) Or would my setup stand up to the single cards at that pricepoint? (A quick NewEgg search shows some Radeon 4870s about that much, which I'm pretty sure would be better. Those GTX 460s look more promising too...)
Thanks!
