My system is running an AMD 4200+ X2, 4gigs, BFG9600GT, 2 36gig raptors in raid 0, plus a media drive which is 400gig, no cd rom etc

couple questions.

Why do you need to upgrade the PSU? Your system isn't particularly power hungry. A 400-450W PSU would be plenty for that.

Why are those the only 2 you are choosing between? Both are more than enough for your system, yet at their rated outputs, neither is exactly top notch.

I want to future proof myself.

I have an additional of 4 more hard drives I will be adding once I add another SATA addon card. Looking for a budget PSU with decent numbers.

So what kind rated outputs should I be looking for?

As for the why only two kinds? What other suggestions do you have then, any input is much appreciated.

are you going to do a staggard startup on those hard drives?

Unless you upgrade the videocard or overclock the CPU by a bunch, your system isn't particularly demnding, unless all 7 hard drives want to spin up at once.

500-550W should be more than enough.

I think the Antec Earthwatts 650W usually sells around $70...that would be a better choice than either of those.

That's were my price point was. Thanks!

One factor for me is that I don't much like the 'celebrity branding' element where a chack for a twitch gamer who I doubt makes the item any better is added to the cost for marketing.

I can see the branding for a relevant item such as a mouse, where it's probably still heavily abused, but gamer endorsed power supplies and RAM gets to be ridiculous.
