Time to upgrade? Advantages?

Here are my rig stats.
XaserIII case
2 BFG 6800GT's SLI
ASUS A8NSLI Deluxe
1 gig 3200 (nothin fancy, not overclocked)
AMD 3500+ 2.2

I am having trouble with my SLI setup, and I know I can still get a pretty penny for these BFG 6800GT's, so do you guys think its a good trade up to dump the 2 6800GT's and get a 7900GTX? Is there less power consumption, is it more stable than an older SLI setup? how about heat. and what kind of FPS differences can I see between the 2 setups?

any input would be awesome, I aslo am thinking about adding another gig of 3200, or upgrading what I have, and possibly upgrading my CPU.

the fps depends on what resolution you play at. but the 7900gtx should spank your two 6800's at 1280x1024... heat and sound should more or less be the same... maybe the 7900gtx wins by a lil in the sound. upgrading ram wont give much of a fps increase in games but might help around other applications as long as you have 1gb...

7900GTX will spank 2x6800GTs! Also, 2GB of RAM would be a good idea since you can still do so cheaply now...it's not like system requirements are going down for games any time soon.

What kind of trouble are you having? Just low FPS, or an issue with SLI? I don't think that a single NV card will be inherently more stable than an SLI set, since I've never really had any issues with any of the numerous SLI setups I've had unless one of the cards was defective. That being said, if you are planning on switching to a single card unstead of dual, I would suggest the X1900XT(X) over the 7900GTX. The overall performance in almost all newer DX9 games is better for the Radeon than the GTX, and IMO it just offers a better overall value. Of course, the GTX isn't a bad card by any means, I just think the X1900XT(X) is a better card for the money. Obvioulsy, if you want to leave the SLI option open or really want a quieter rig, go for the 7900GTX.

2 months ago I sold my 6800GTs and upgraded to an XTX for $99 out-of-pocket. The GT SLI ran great for a good 13 months, but soon games like FEAR, COD2, and then Oblivion finally forced me to upgrade. I've been completely happy with the upgrade.

Also a good alternative. I've got an X1900XT (flashed to XTX) and it is smooth as butter. I would also recommend an Accelero X2 cooler if you go with ATI, as the stock fan is quite annoying. I'm currently running Oblivion at 4xAA, 16x(HQ)AF, HDR at 1280x960 resolution. I get a nice smooth 30-40FPS even in wide open spaces with lots of NPCs around and 70-80FPS in the dungeons.
