If I understand the info correctly, Chessbrain is inactive these days, as they're coding "Chessbrain Mark II" so to say. But I couldn't find any information on their website, as when that one will launch. So, should we drop it then? It's basically the same as we had with Predictor@Home.

Maybe we could do this. Drop Chessbrain & rewrite the little blurb about looking at amdborgs site to something like this: (i bolded the part i changed here but won't laeve it that way in the revised thread)
Evolution@Home
Stardust@Home

Some projects, BOINC & non-BOINC, are down for extended periods. Either re-coding their clients, re-aiming their scientific search, possible lack of funding or many other reasons, not knowing when they will be open again. For that reason not all TeAm run projects are shown here. For the complete list of TeAm run projects, please visit our TeAm AnandTech Websites:
TeAm AnandTech DC Projects hosted by "amdxborg"

Many of the projects have daily stats threads posted by members here on the forums. If you have any questions about a certain project please post in the stats thread. If no thread is available, feel free to start your own thread.

Look over the various projects. Most are very easy to set up and run, don't require 24 hour/day operation (but once addicted, you may just do that), and have almost no effect on the operation of your everyday PC(s).

For a general overview about Distributed Computing and various projects, please visit Kirk's Dstributed Computing Info site or the List of Distributed Computing Projects Wiki

If you have a question, please jump right in and ask ... or just say hello! You'll be glad you did, and we will, too! :)

Good ide Space, I like that. So we won't have the prob of explaining each and every downtime/stop of the various DC projects again and again.

The TeAm links for Einstein, Leiden, LHC and µfluids seem to be wrong to me. The point at the TeAm page, but not the join page.

Instead of "XXXXXX/team_display.php?teamid=XX" it should be "XXXXXXX/team_join_form.php?id=XXXXXX", right?

For those projects where there are no teams, should be add a line somewhere that certain DC projects just don't have a team function (like Stardust and others)?

OK, i fixed the links you pointed out in my post above.
Are we sure that's where you want them to go & not just to the TeAm page?
How about th WCG TeAm link. Seem OK to you?

Yeah, Stardust has no teams but some of the others do but don't display them, at least that i could find.

edit- found a few more team links & added them above & to my OP.

Indeed, it's a good question wether we want to point them directly to the TeAm page or the join page. I mean, on the TeAm page there's the "join" button anway. ?

I can't say anything about the WCG link as I'm not a member of that.

Good :)

I'll let it sit for a day or so to see if anything else comes up or any one has other ideas, before contacting the mods.

Found one sentence that needs a little grammatic help. ;)

You can make <an> account in BOINC-Manager if <you> haven't got one from before. At the end, remember to visit <the> team-URL to join TeAm AnandTech.

Great work, Spacehead. :wine:

Easy mistake to make and overlook, but for QMC, loose the index.php ;) http://qah.uni-muenster.de/

The other BOINC-links seems to be in order.

Other things... maybe loose the BOINC from SETI.

Instead of "For HD space..." maybe use example "For System requirements", or "For OS, memory & hd-space requirements"... or something...

Adding a "General DC-notes" or some other way to clearly indicate the last part is for all DC-projects, and not just for non-BOINC-projects.

Oh, and "own DC-infrastructure"... All projects runs their own independent servers, so not sure if this is the right wording...

Thanks guys. New eyes looking at this thing is really what we needed.

Updates coming shortly.

Yeah, we were just trying to differentiate those project from the BOINC list. I wasn't sure what to put either. "Other Projects" & "Non-BOINC Projects" didn't seem like a very good idea

Welcome to the Team AnandTech Distributed Computing Forum! Here you will find plenty of great folks who would be glad to help you with the technical side of setting up and running distributed computing applications. You will find people who are more passionate about numbers than some mathematicians. You will find a great community who enjoy having [slightly] off topic discussions and helping each other immensely in real life.

So what is this "distributed computing" thing anyway? Distributed computing describes a system in which client systems receive work involving calculation of some sort from a server, perform the computation, and then send the results back to the server. Thus, it is possible to employ thousands or millions of personal computers, surpassing the power of many supercomputers.

You might ask, why would I want to donate my spare CPU time and electricity to something like this? A quick overview of the variety of projects listed below may well convince you that the very small cost of electricity required to run a computer 24/7 (hint: turn off the monitor to save power) is well worth the difference you can make in your project?s area of scientific research.

Some projects look outward into space, to look for extraterrestrial life, pulsars, and other things. Others look around, to chart the development of life on the planet, or predict future weather patterns. Yet others look inward, to analyze the structure of atoms, molecules, or proteins. Each project can have a great impact on the development of science in its area, and you can help!

I haven't heard from them since i sent the update. I noticed they haven't updated but i seem to recall it takes awhile for them to get around to it.

If i don't hear anything later in the week i'll PM them to see what's up.
