Time to test out that Apple warranty for my Nano

My iPod nano is splitting at the seam. If i wanted to, i could literally seperate the two. First time having an issue with any of the three ipods i've owned (first one back in 2002).

Gonna bring it by the apple store this afternoon w/ my receipt and see what they can do for me. It was originally purchased at BB.

It was never dropped and is in perfect condition, its just not staying togeather.

Anyone have any experience w/ this?

Apple is normally extremely good when it comes to the warranty. They'll probably just wind up giving you a new one.

I hope so, that would be cool if they did.

Argh,

Round 1: Apple wins.

Went 30 mins up to the Apple store only to find out you need to set an appt when you get there.... The "standby" line was full and their 1st available appt wasn't until 8:20pm. I spoke to a rep there who at first said "No, thats not covered. Functionally, it still works so our warranty doesn't cover it". After pressing him for a few mins, he took the iPod in the back a second and came back out a min later saying he was wrong, it is covered.

I came back to school for class... Till 8:20pm, i wait...

BTW, what kinda crap is this that you need an appt to even talk to someone?

Would you rather have to wait in line till 8:20?

Every other profession in the world has people make appointments, it's not like it's a new idea.

if you take some stuff back to best buy you don't have to make an appointment. or circuit city. or anywhere else that i can think of. the apple store != doctor/dentist/etc or any profession that would require an appointment. maybe they should hire some more people?

Profession? WTF

Your comparing an apple store tech to a professional career?

try taking a used device back to best buy that has a split down its seam and try to get a brand new one as a replacement. not only will they tell you to take a hike, they'll laugh in your face, throw a few chinese stars at your eyeballs, and torch your body as you cower in pain.

your argument would be valid if you were talking about returning/exchanging a new item.

One of my friends had a Nano that got smashed in his laptop bag and broke the screen, and he sent it back for warranty repair and they sent him a brand new one back.

i've taken things back that were damaged before and got exchanges. i took some speakers back that had a buzzing noise, they exchanged them without even hooking them up.

so yeah, try again i guess.

edit: in fact the only time i've had problems with best buy is 1) i don't have a receipt (my fault) or 2) actually i can't think of another time. i've even exchanged music cds i'd bought there that were defective for new ones (yes the same cd) without a receipt.

LOLOL i guess that's one way to look at it. Personally, i think that's bull that you need to schedule your time around to return an item to a store you bought it from... but then that might just be me.

um ok dumbass, you try again.

the OP originally bought his nano at best buy. let's run two test.

1) take the nano to BB and ask for a replacement. see what happens.
2) take the nano to an apple store and ask for a replacement. see what happens.

i know what the results will be, and i'm betting you do too.

kthxbye.

Round 2: Aphex wins (even score) - but wow.....

Got there at 8:15, name didnt come up on the plasma till 8:30 (not a big deal). Its interesting to watch them fix the computers in front of everyone, not used to that. They just plug em right into the plasma's up top and work through the problem so the customers can see how they fix it themselves.

Anyway, the guy calls my name. Takes the iPod, examines it for ~ 2 minutes, trys to pry it open a few times, then stares at it for 15 seconds, then goes in the back. Out he comes w/ a new black 4gb nano (at least i think its new, might be a refurb, how can i tell?).

This is the best part, he then proceeds to give me the nano and says "Well, the problem isnt that bad, so i had to think if i should do this. Then i thought to myself, how would i feel if this was my nano? Then i also thought, what would Steve Jobs do?"

I had to fight to hold back the mocking laughter... I can only see it now, WWSJD bracelets.... Jebus, anyway, happy that i got a non mechanically malfunctioning nano....

Giving customers new products as replacement 'cause they have no clue on fixing the problem. Genius!

you're supposed to go online and send it back that way, they'll ship you a new one.

After 180 days, they charge $30 for shipping.
