A thread in highly technical reminded me - it's time to stock up on coal for the winter season... I'll probably go through about 3-4 tons this year.

Anyone else use coal to heat with? At my old house, it was natural gas... $400 plus per month during the winter months. Coal is a helluva lot cheaper - about 5-700 dollars for the entire winter, plus I can crank the heat up to 75 instead of setting the thermostat back to 65-68.

(oh, for the uninitiated, modern coal stoves are just like pellet stoves... fill the hopper in the back and you're set for a day or two. No dust, no dirt involved any more. Just empty the ash pan once a day or so and you're all set. Far less work than a wood stove.)

Better value for the dollar. More heat per ton of coal. But, it's like the nice pellet stoves... glass front with the fire visible.. Almost like having a fireplace.
