My spidey sense tells me that a lot of you folks are in the Eastern time zone and don't tend to stay up very late.

Whenever I come here after 10 or 11 pm, it's strictly crickets and tumble weeds. Sure, there are always a couple stragglers probably coming off some sort of bender so there's still, what I'll call, the faint glow of human warmth.

Uh, skip that last bit. I forgot where I was. Hehehe

The forums have been really slow lately in terms of new discussions. I miss the old days where ATOT was a hub of activity. Not sure how I will waste my time after this place goes under.

Sadly it seems forums in general are kind of dead. Platforms like Twitter, Reddit and Facebook get most of the traffic despite the fact that they are crappy formats compared to forums especially for any longer term discussion as most of these platforms tend to favour "threads" lasting no more than a few days then get buried.

No doubt .... this place has been my online "home" for what feels like forever.

Reddit will make a piss-poor substitute.
Well there is some hope. I just made an account here. Not to talk about tech but because I can't stand posting on Reddit, Twitter, or Facebook. There are a lot of good forums out there so if you sign up for a handful you can get all your posting in for the day without resorting to Reddit. Spread the word, I've also signed up on BoingBoing and Fark. Considering maybe newgrounds next.

As an added perk all the trolls, idiots, and people with agendas will be drawn to large communities keeping places like this nice!

We CANNOT die!

We WILL NOT die!

Oh my, that was exhausting.

Seriously though, this and similar places will be analogous to the pedal buggy (rikshaw?). You don't take it because it's fast and often times, not even fun.

So . . . the reason would be . . . ?

Uh, well, we all have our own reasons I suppose, but that's exactly the point.
stop resisting and join the nef thread :colbert:
You know, I HAVE thought about it. But I don't understand it.

There's nothing to understand, you say.

Mmm, were that only true.

I find Reddit can be very useful. I avoid following political subreddits there except for a cartoon one where I find good cartoon commentary.

Reddit is good for consumption. Reading news links on whatever topic you're interested in, looking at funny pictures, or whatever. There's hardly any kind of community, and not much individual personality. You just type some shit, get some karma, and it's gone forever for all intents and purposes.

all the alcoholics that used to keep this place interesting either sobered up or died.

You are free to go to bed by 7, but aren't you just finishing dinner at Golden Corral?

the golden corral near me shut down a couple years ago

then again, i haven't eaten inside a restaurant since COVID started. i might never do it again. the thought of eating around other people kind of freaks me out now.

also if i'm doing the same hours as my grandma, it would be

- wake up at 2am
- breakfast at 3am
- dinner at 10am
- supper at 3pm
- go to bed at 6pm

I forget the timing, was that before the "change of culture"?

yeah, it was early 2000s.

though it's not like the change of culture really had much of an effect on the outflow of forumers... reddit and facebook and twitter did that mostly on their own.
