OS X 10.3, while having some really cool features, is still a tad bit too beta for me. Going back to 10.2.6, so I've got to wipe the old OS off the drive, as my copy of 10.2 wont install over a newer version of OS X.

Thanks for the info.

EDIT: I reformat my XP machine, on average, about once a month.

Woah, you reformat once a month? Why?

I reformat maybe 2 - 3 times a year.

I'm picky. Things have to be pretty much perfect, or else it just doesn't feel right.

So for someone without a mac but who may eventually pick one up, what were the problems you've noticed with the 10.3? Any new features that you really have giving up?

I installed 10.3 on a G3/333 iMac and it runs SO well on it. The machine was running 10.2.6, but I wanted to try out the Developer's Preview of Panther. It runs so much better with 10.3.

I have a couple apps that wont run on the 10.3 beta, notably Toast (cd burning app). Some of the bugs: clciking on your home directory in the new finder sometimes does not take you to your home directory, Applications seem to die unexpectedly significantly more often (I hardly ever had an app crash on 10.2, but it seems to happen once a day with the 10.3 beta), there seem to be some rendering bugs with drawing menus... occasionally one will end up entirely white instead of colored with text on it.

There have been a bunch of little things that I really think should be expected in a beta, but they've been annoying me. I will still pick it up as soon as the final come out. The new finder and Exposé alone are worth the upgrade. You can read about them here.

10.2 has been rock solid for me, and I'm sure 10.3 will be after another 6 months in development... however, I don't feel like dealing with it's quirks for those 6 months.

Same here. I end up reformating about every month or two. Usually it's because I fvck something up and I don't feel like trying to fix it, though. It works out because like you said I like everything perfect, and it has a cleaner feel to it. I have everything I need backed up to 4 DVD-R's though, so it doesn't take too long.
