time to give up on non-SLI ultra nforce4 boards?

What's it take to get this stuff released? I NEEEEEEEEDS my HL2!!!!

What are the long term benefits of waiting for the new socket type other than PCI express? Many thanks.

IIRC Dual Core processors are going to be S939, so going with an Nforce4 board clears the path for that upgrade....

Is this a gaurantee pretty much? And is the memory bandwidth on the 939 nforce4 boards sufficient for a dual core proc?

They WILL be S939, but not all S939 Mobo's will be able to run them.... The power requirements for a dual-core chip will be higher than those for a single core chip, so only those motherboards which can provide enough power for the dual-core chip will be able to run them. Unfortunately, since AMD has not released the power specs for their dual-core design yet (to my knowledge), it is a guessing game as to which (if any) current mobo will be able to run them. The best bet is to go with a board that allows voltage to the CPU to be upped a LOT, but I do not currently have a list of these boards. I am sure AMD will try to make it so that as many current boards as possible can run the new chips, but some are bound to be left out in the cold.
