I've waxed my car in the past before, but with the amount i drive (over 3000 miles/mo), it dosen't last long....

Time to get a seriously good wax...

I've heard about using a clay bar on the car first to remove dirt/old wax, what do you recommend?

Also, what do you recommend as the actual wax? I've heard good things about Zaino Bros (i think thats who it was).

I use Zaino. Here's the process:

1) Wash car
2) Clay bar it
3) Mix ZFX with Z2-pro, apply onto car and wait for 30 mins to dry
4) Buff out
5) Spray on Z6 and wipe off immediately
6) Repeat 3-5 for no more than 3 times in a 24 hr period

Enjoy for 6 months.

very nice, where is the cheapest place to get all of that? Also, bad idea to do it in the sun? I don't have a garage, but if i start early i hope i can finish before it rains...

crap, just saw this;
Before using a Z-18 ClayBar? on your car, you must thoroughly clean and dry your car to remove any loose dirt. Direct sunlight should not fall on your car's surface, and it's best if the work area is relatively cool to prevent rapid evaporation of the clay lubricant. Do not risk scratching your car; if you drop your clay bar, throw it away!

No garage here, wonder if some local place can do it for me.

You can really only get it through Zaino: http://www.zainobros.com

They're located in NJ.

I don't have a garage myself, but I do have a huge tree in my driveway. I start at about 5pm, finish just when the sun goes down. It's recommended you don't do it in the sun because it just dries everything up and leaves marks. Just do it in a shaded area and you'll be fine.

EngenZer0 you could use a non-tech wax and probably get quite a bit better gloss to it. Do you use a mechanical buffer or do it all by hand?

Another vote for Zaino's. Definitely the best customer service....Mr Zaino himself called me up and educated me on the best way to use his product! I had literally emailed me question the day before and he was on the phone the next afternoon (having looked up my phone number from my initial order!) Amazing service and amazing product.

MD.

site is down right now but http://www.detailplus.com/ had clay bars (2x40g) for $9.95 when you buy $50 or more (normally $19.95 for 2x40g).

I stocked up a few years ago and now I need more.

When you use a bar, make sure you only tear off a piece of it at a time. I know a lot that try to use the whole bar at once ;).

While you can, they will not last as long and are way more difficult to use than taking a piece you can flatten out to 3x3" roughly.

Plus if you just drop a piece...you trash it no problem...drop your whole bar you should trash it.
