Time to finally upgrade the 'ole LCD - looking for ideas

I'm looking for recommendations for a new LCD. My current one is a pretty old Dell 17" 4:3 with VGA input. The primary issue I have with it is that I need to close the curtains, max out the brightness settings on the monitor, AND max out the in-game brightness settings to get acceptable results during the day. The ghosting is also not particular endearing.

So the number one thing I'm looking for in the new monitor is a decent brightness. The primary thing this will be used for is gaming - everything else can be considered secondary. Needs to have DVI input - HDMI is not important. 22" widescreen is the desired size.

I looked through the recommendations in the LCD thread, but I don't see any 22" ones listed under hardcore gaming 😕...

I saw this one at TD - thoughts? Good for my intended use? Bad?

Yep, I see that now after reading over the AT review. I won't hold that against it though - one of my LCD TVs has that same type of reflective glossy coating, and I find the enhanced colors compared to the non-glossy ones to be worth it. Plus, my desk is positioned with the windows and lamps in front of me, not behind.

LCDs are one of those items that you can research to your hearts content but in the end is still a subjective buy. Go with a design you like at a price you are comfortable with. Beyond buying a decent brand, the rest is a matter of opinion. Some people swear by IPS or VA panels while for others a TN is great. I got a Samsung 2ms TN for gaming, and I'm really happy with it, even after the months of research told me to go with something else, I just went to a store and compared the LCDs on my shortlist, and found that there isn't really much difference in the end. Just my 2 cents.

I'm a happy owner of an HP W2207! For that price it's a steal! I spent ~$300 for Xmas. I love the monitor, and specifically the stand! Colors are great! Blacks look BLACK. Only downside is the TN-Panel's viewing angles, but it's easily corrected by adjusting the magnificent stand. 🙂 No Ghosting. I love mine!

Alrighty, it looks like a good bet so far, so I pulled the trigger. Heh, unfortunately, I'm at home now, and after doing some desk space measurements, I'm beginning to wonder if a new desk might be in order. Possible pics to come ...

Thanks for the input folks.

My research led me to a couple places about 8 months ago.

I ended up with a LG L206WTY-BF and have been satisfied. Viewing angle issue as with all large monitors, but AOK head on and level.
I've had no ghosting issues whatsoever, and the monitor is indeed very bright. 300 cd/m2 3000:1

Runner up:

Samsung 226BW - (READ about the multiple panels http://www.behardware.com/arti...ries-the-verdict.html)

I haven't looked recently, but you should also check out some of Dells LCDs as they are very well made if within budget. I purchased my monitor
based on overall color reproduction quality, brightness, contrast and performance when I wanted to play games (Mainly FPS at 1650x1080).
