The war on drugs has to be ended, its very hypocritical that many of our politicians have tried drugs in the past yet now support the drug war

Psst, if we make them legal (like alcohol and cigs) there is absolutely no profit motive for that gang banger to get a kid hooked on heroin. Go ask just about any teenager whats easier to get, alcohol or illegal drugs. Almost all of them will say illegal drugs, wanna know why? Its actually quite simple, alcohol is regulated and drugs are not. Drug dealers don't give a shit how old you are as long as you have money. Legalizing and regulating drugs puts those gang bangers completely out of business

That isn't a concern if they are regulated.

There is profit motive for the legal entity that has taken over from the gang banger to get kids hooked, just do some research on the tobacco companies and their advertising to get them young like Joe Camel.

I am all for prohibition.

The real problem is not people but the government trying to profit off of controlling people.

It does not work.

You prohibit something that is too easily produced (like alcohol) it lends to cartels. The Mafia got its foothold because of prohibition.

You regulate it, tax it, and in some cases use prescriptions and you get a better handle on it, although it can still be abused (Limbaugh et all).

The only ones that you prohibit are ones that would cause more damage if easy to access than funding the criminal element. Crack is a classic example. Other than that, we are just feeding the fire.

As an example, why did the government take over the Student Loans?

Because it was the smart and logical thing to do?

Under the old system private lenders gave out loans that were 100% guaranteed by the government. They were in effect lending out the government's money as they would always be paid back. The government also paid them a significant amount of interest on top of this.

Instead of paying other entities to give out government guaranteed loans, the government just started loaning out directly. It's not a "takeover", private companies are every bit as able to give out student loans as they ever were. The government has simply chosen not to subsidize the banking industry.

The government doesn't have the right to tell people what they can do with there bodies as long as they dont hurt anyone else. Its violating there freedom.

The War On Drugs has been a massive failure and has actually increased crime and will never work.

Do you think the War On Drugs should be ended.

All "Wars on....*insert reason for government expansion here*" should be ended

It should be like it was in the real old days. Days when you could walk into a pharmacy and order whatever the hell you pleased without a prescription. People were a lot more responsible then because they were trusted more.
All the war on drugs has done is make the true criminals rich.
