with everybody upgrading both of these(i'm fully expecting xbox 360 to trounce ps3), it seems like their profits should skyrocket over the next year. also how many of the analysts understand these things and will buy now expecting this growth

um....there will be an expected rise in earnings...therefore the stock won't go up all that much

NO!

You have to look a the numbers. A console for a company the size of Microsoft is like have Chevy announce they are coming out with aftermarket stering wheels. The impact on finances will be minimal.

Besides, MSFT is far from a good investment.

anyone who buys now is already behind the times...any true analysts would have bought YEARS ago for this when longhorn was first whispered to be in production...

With stocks, if you think it's painfully obvious that you'll make a lot of money, then you won't.

well you do realize that with xbox360, M$ is initially going to lose MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars because they are taking a hit on every console put out there.

just thought i'd point that out if people were unaware.

MS is losing money on the hardware but will make money in the long run on the software. No reason to buy stock now.

I don't think xbox 360 will make a dent in their $40billion in revenue. Besides these things are already priced into the stock. A stock's value is based on future earnings.

Unless you are willing to put a lot of time into doing your own research, do not buy single stocks!

It's much safer to buy a mutual fund like Vanguard.com's VFINX, a fund of the 500 different stocks (including MSFT) that are in the S&P 500 index.

Just wondering, but do you have some investments with Vanguard?
Thinking about putting some money with them, just haven't gone ahead and done it yet.

Ummm won't launching the XBox make them LOSE money? They actually lose money on every console sale Not that it would make a big dent in MS' profit margins in the grand scheme of things.

I have VFINX and VEURX shares, but my accounts are at Schwab so I have to pay a trading fee to buy Vanguard funds.

If you set up an account directly at vanguard.com and put in at least $5K (to avoid account maintenance fee) you can buy their own funds without a trading fee.

ummm i dont think vista is gonna sell all that well - it doesn't provide much over the current windows (outside of GL window rendering). Without WinFS i don't really have that much of a reason to upgrade.

Is that permanently in your clipboard waiting to be pasted into a "Should I buy this stock" thread? ;)

After thinking about it maybe you should sell any Microsoft stock you have. They lose money on the XBOX, and will probably lose on the new one.
