Time to burn Homosexual Books in Alabama!

Ah... gotta love the bible belt. Those christian fundies are so smart, everyone knows that reading about gays turns one homosexual and heaven forbid that people are gay.

The bill also would ban materials that recognize or promote a lifestyle or actions prohibited by the sodomy and sexual misconduct laws of Alabama. Allen said that meant books with heterosexual couples committing those acts likely would be banned, too.

Aside from the moral debates, the bill could be problematic for library collections, said Jaunita Owes, director of the Montgomery City-County Library, which is a few blocks from the Alabama Capitol.

"Half the books in the library could end up being banned. It's all based on how one interprets the material," Owes said.

That's what I was thinking. The U.S. is heading towards banning all books not approved by the radical Religious Right Wingers ruling the Country but hey it's what we all want so why not. We're a third World Country now so who needs books anyway.

This is ludacris and makes me ashamed to be an Alabamian. I could maybe see banning certain books from being required reading in elementary and middle school classrooms, but not banned from the shelves altogether in high school, college, and general public libraries. But then again, censorship of said books can also affect the availability of certain books that have very high literary value. I just don't see this move as having any net positive effect and should be left off the lawbooks.

What the hell?
A bill by Rep. Gerald Allen, R-Cottondale, would prohibit the use of public funds for "the purchase of textbooks or library materials that recognize or promote homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle." Allen said he filed the bill to protect children from the "homosexual agenda."
What is the homosexsual agenda exactly? Oh no! Its not like being gay somehow really hurts other people...

Are you serious? You don't know that all the gays in hollywood and in the liberal media are trying to turn our honest god fearing children into gays through constant subversive immersion in the gay culture?

Where have you been man?

People who use the phrase "homosexual agenda" are almost always just looking for a creative and inovative way to convince everyone they are raving morons that don't know what they are talking about. When I hear someone use that phrase, I immediatly place them in the same catagory as the dude standing on a crate "preaching" through a megaphone outside Minnosota Twins' Games at the Metrodome 😀

I say we ban Alabama and all mention of it in any book or library in the rest of the country.

Only if we punish the token liberals with beheading. 😉

Banning books, as far as I can tell, is almost never a good idea.
