Time to ask for a limit raise?

I got my first credit card about a year ago with a measly $300 limit. In August they bumped it to $500. Is it safely time to call and ask for at least $1000? Or should I wait and/or not ask at all?

does it hurt to ask?

i got my first credit card in college when i was a freshman and my limit was like 2,000 and after a few years, it's up to 11,000 now. i just randomly click the "increase my credit limit" option on my online account every few months

Yeah, just explain to them nicely that $500 worth of porn just isnt getting you off anymore.

$1000 may do it, $1500 would be better.

Yeah, i'm working on the same principle. I keep a zero balance, but it cant hurt to keep increasing the limit. Usually the company just reviews your account history to determine whether or not to raise the limit.

I always pay in full and I am currently employed (although I don't work much because I'm at college, but they wouldn't know that). I was just making sure six months from my last raise wasn't too soon to ask.

I've never asked to have the limit raised. They periodically do it anyway.

The only reason I would have asked for an increase is because I wanted to make a purchase that was larger than my current limit.

Those of you that just randomly ask for an increase for the heck of it...is there a reason you do it?

Yes, to keep my credit score up when I need a loan (car loan etc..). I had to put a decent chunck of change on my CC due to medical issues, and the lower my debt/limit ratio which raises my credit score.

credit card companies want to see you using the credit they give you. so if you want to raise your limit quickly, just charge a lot to your card (maybe 50% of your current limit) then pay it off. with a limit of $500 this shouldn't bee too hard. if you only have one card you may want to consider applying for a second card, and increase your limit that way...
