Time not advancing when PC is off?

My sister (no pics - fuck off) - just called and says her older IBM laptop (netburst era) has started to not advance time when the PC is off. Turn PC off at 2am, turn back on at 9am, and the pc still says its 2am.

Weird... Any thoughts?

Assuming everything else is working fine, its probably just the battery.

EDIT: CMOS battery that is.

Yeah thats the cmos battery make sure to use same battery number because every battery come with same shape and size so look for battery model number etc when replace the battery...after replace it with new battery and cmos and bios will revert to default setting at boot up it is normal so no need to panic.
