not sure on that. IF sony drops the price and actually comes out with some good games they have a chance.

That's a year or more down the road....at least. Sony is losing too much on each unit to drop the price anytime soon.

oh at least 2 years. but i have my wii to play and thinking of a 360 (only game i really want is Gears of war).

And that's the problem for Sony. MS should drop the price of the 360 within the next year....they are making an ~$75 profit on Premium 360s now. The Wii is so cheap already that it may see a price cut too.

but since i beat Zelda (sniff now what?) i have been looking for games. hmm wonder if i should trade zelda for something heh

Rayman: Raving Rabids?

yeah if MS and Nintendo are smart they will do a price drop at the same time.

might rent Rayman to see if i like it. Got Super Swing golf to try. its ok but don't think i will buy it.
but thats ok. im sure they will have a few good games soon.

I tell you one thing, ebay PS3 auctions have cratered, a lot of them are selling for a loss, while Wii's are still going strong.

false, PS3 is a great value for what you get. Sony is losing a lot of money on it. just a standalone bd player itself costs 900 dollars. the production numbers are close enough.
$600 is also hideously expensive for a games console. If it were just a BluRay player, then maybe it wouldn't be comparatively hideously expensive (compared to Bluray players only), but all Bluray players are hideously expensive anyway, so the PS3 being cheap compared to them doesn't make the PS3 good value.
Plus it's hard to write games for; the launch titles were lame.

yes, and yes but also true for the other consoles. launch titles are always lame overall.
The 360 is (according to devs) easier to code for than the PS3. I would assume the same for the Wii since they've had experience with the GC, which is similar. It's also less advanced hardware than the PS3.

yes, you can really tell that they got an expert to write that article. :disgust:

you make no sense whatsoever. the ps3 IS a blu-ray player, AND a game console, AND a linux capable computer. its NOT just a game console, its a lot more.

yes the 360 may be easier to code for, The wii, well you dont even have to code for that thing you just add the wiimote functionality. when i said its true for other consoles i meant launch title quality. hence two yeses.

I don't know...sounds about right to me. Most other people too.

What's the matter? Feeling burned because you spent 3 days camping out for a PS3, or did you pay $2000 for one on Ebay?

If the company didn't have other cars that compensated for the low ML500 sales, they'd go out of business.

How the hell do you "outbeat" something?

Second, it's been just over 4 weeks since their respective launches. Get a grip.

You missed the whole point.....

PS2 was originally marketed as an all in one station just like the PS3 is now. The problem? No one gave two ***** about the PS2 having a DVD player just like no one will give two ***** about the PS3 having BluRay. Face it....the only people who will buy the the PS3 will be people who want to play games on it. Unless Sony will start to change its marketing soon, no one will take the PS3 seriously as a BluRay DVD player. The fact is, Sony did not have to make it this way. The spent millions on developing this into an all in one beast , but then they just focus the marketing on gaming.....

oh and I have a gamecube too. Actually If I sell both those and some games, I wonder how much I'll get. Prolly not more than a 100 right?

You cannot compare the PS3 and the Wii. The Wii had a larger inventory then then sony did. Did the wii beat Sony with sales? Yes. Other then that I don't see how anyone can say the wii has DOMINATED the PS3.

I have a Wii and love it, I'll be getting a PS3 aswell, sony's not going anywhere soon this isn't some mom and pop company here people.

is it dominating? no. is it winning the battle now? yes.

part of that is the fact sony can't produce enough and Nintendo has. people can only buy what is in the store.

Like it's been said before, considering the fact that eBay (capitalism at its best) auctions of the PS3 are being sold at a loss, and Wii's are still selling for $100 over MSRP, it's clear which system is more desired, even though both are equally difficult to get a hold of.

Because they didn't agree with you?

That article is dead on, succinct and to the point. However it's not like Sony lost the whole war, just the opening battle. But how DO you blow the huge lead Sony had? I mean they've been king for years.

As a sidenote I'm extremely pleased that Nintendo still has a thriving product. Things would be pretty dull with only 2 competitors.

you're not lonyo, and he was not making that point.

you could be right but its way too early to make that call. bluray player functionality is definitely a plus for the ps3, its nothing like how dvd was for the ps2.

So, what are Nintendo and Sony planning to do:

My guess is this:

Nintendo will sell as many units/software as they can with the Wii - and will walk away when the market drys up - then move to their system... With that, they still make money to keep the company happily afloat, with the GBA/DS helping them as well...

Sony, I think, is planning to use PS3 as a platform longer then they did with the PS or PS2.... They are hoping to make back money over a long term period of time - and unless they can drop the price of the core units, they've got a long, long road ahead of them...

Back when Sony was promising millions at launch, they were predicting 5 years before they started to make a profit off the PS3. Who knows now.

The PS3 execs said that wanted the PS3 to last ten years. Not unheard of considering the lifespan of the PS1 and the PS2 is still selling strong because of its price point and library of games..

Dude. Bad analogy. Mercedes makes a ton of profit on their cars. Sony is not making a profit.
Nintendo is smart selling a lower priced console, and still selling for profit.
You can't last long if you are expecting products to turn a profit years ahead on a consumer product. Jumbo airliner? Sure. Video console? nope.
If Sony used this scheme for all products, they will be in trouble.
I am positive that Sony execs are pissed.

not to mention there are only 3 new gaming consoles out. So in this case, whoever captures the majority can be generally called the winner
