Time magazine on the PS3

The big story in computer games this year was HOW TO BLOW A HUGE LEAD, by Sony. Its PlayStation 2 was the champ in the last round of the console wars. This time Sony bet on a chip called the Cell and a disc format called Blu-ray. They're probably awesome, but how would anybody know? The PS3 is hideously expensive--it goes for up to $600--and Sony manufactured only a piddling few hundred thousand for the U.S., fewer for Japan. Plus it's hard to write games for; the launch titles were lame. You know you're in trouble when you get beat by something called a Wii.

What's inaccurate about that? The name is generally considered to be really bad. If you have an issue with their saying that the PS3 got "beat" by the Wii, re-read the rest of the paragraph. They clearly mention that Sony has manufactured too few systems (although with them now selling at retail prices on eBay, apparantly that isn't so much of an issue).

not sure on that. IF sony drops the price and actually comes out with some good games they have a chance.

either way i'm happy with my Wii and do plan on getting a PS3 (i love RPG's and playstation always has more) when they drop in price

the race hasnt barely begun yet, it hasnt even been 2 months, and ps3 had production problems. perhaps they mean "how to screw up a holiday launch"

false, PS3 is a great value for what you get. Sony is losing a lot of money on it. just a standalone bd player itself costs 900 dollars. the production numbers are close enough.

yes, and yes but also true for the other consoles. launch titles are always lame overall.

And that's the problem for Sony. MS should drop the price of the 360 within the next year....they are making an ~$75 profit on Premium 360s now. The Wii is so cheap already that it may see a price cut too.

The only thing wrong with the last sentence is I think the name of the Wii is better than Playstation 3...think of something different for once. I mean, sure Nintendo released the Super Nintendo but at least the successor to that wasn't "Ultra Nintendo" or something equally ridiculous. I mean, there's the PSX, PSOne, PS2, slim PS2, PS3 and PSP now...that's enough PS's for me
